Kiss-of-the-DamnedThe R-rated Kiss of the Damned marks Xan Cassavetes’ feature debut behind the camera, continuing the family tradition as the sister of the brilliant Nick Cassavetes.

The film debuted at Venice last year, and the early reviews suggest that the film brings a new (or, in some ways, old) take to the vampire genre, with nods to the horrors of past decades, and bringing in an explicit sexiness to the fare.

Magnet will be putting the film out through VOD next month, before a theatrical US release date in May. And now Yahoo Movies have debuted the first red-band trailer to give us a taste of what to expect.

“Beautiful vampire Djuna (Josephine de La Baume) tries to resist the advances of the handsome, human screenwriter Paolo (Milo Ventimiglia), but eventually gives in to their passion. When her troublemaker sister Mimi (Roxane Mesquida) unexpectedly comes to visit, Djuna’s love story is threatened, and the whole vampire community becomes endangered…”

Milo Ventimiglia and Joséphine de La Baume take the lead here, with Roxane Mesquida, Michael Rappaport, Riley Keough, and Anna Mouglalis completing the cast nicely.

Cassavetes is directing from her own script, with Alex Orlovsky (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines) and Jen Gatien (Holy Rollers, Jack and Diane) producing.

Kiss of the Damned will be released through VOD on 28th March, before a theatrical release set for 3rd May in the US. No word yet on a UK release date, and it looks like this could be one we’ll have to wait for on DVD/Blu-ray. For now, here’s the first trailer to set the tone. And remember, this one very much earns its red-band rating.

Highly unsuitable viewing for work, with blood, swearing, and nudity, as you might expect.
