Put it down to Lionsgate’s dodgy marketing or some other strange bizarre circumstance (the killer ash effect?!) but one of the best movies of the year thus far hasn’t made it to the top stop in the US this weekend being beaten by How to Train Your Dragon which has been out in the US for four weeks (and don’t get me wrong,I did LOVE How to Train your Dragon)!

Since Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass is a British production (marketed by Universal Studios in the UK), we’ve had it now for 3 or 4 weeks bringing in an estimated total of just over £7m (.6m) gross but the movie has seriously struggled to make an impact in it’s opening weekend in the states. Put it down to killer ash or the fact that Lionsgate tried to market it as a fun loving movie for all the family rather than a violent action blockbuster that it really is, we’re yet to see. This is bad news for a possible sequel to the movie that I was sure we’d see as if the US audience isn’t sold, that could mean bad news for Vaughn and Co going forward.

Peter from /Film gives us more information on what could happen to a sequel (or non sequel) but if you;re in the US and you haven’t been to see Kick-Ass yet, GO, it’s one of the best movies you’ll see this year!
