It was revealed last week that Jason Reitman was set to re-team with writer Diablo Cody for his next directorial effort, Young Adult; with Charlize Theron set to topline the cast.

The Playlist are today speculating that Josh Brolin could star alongside Theron, in the role of her ex-high school boyfriend.

Synopsis: Young Adult will centro on a  ghost-writer (Theron) of young adult novels, who realizes she has no identity with her pseudonym and plots to re-discover herself. Her campaign involves going back and rekindling a relationship with her high school boyfriend–who’s freshly married, is a new father, and wants no part in her life. While she works on her plan, the ghost-writer re-engages with high school acquaintances and their experiences in trying to carry out all those high school hopes and dreams that often get crushed by the realities of life.

The script is being called Cody’s “most mature effort to date, largely dispensing with the annoying slang she’s been tagged with [and] more complex and emotionally layered than ‘crazy-bitch-stalks-her-old-bf.'”

Reitman brought Cody’s Juno script to life, so it’s pleasing to see them working together on another, more mature, project, especially following last year’s Up In The Air.

It’s a massive coup for Theron as well, who’s not been since in a live-action film since The Road. The possibility of Brolin co-starring is the icing on the cake.

Filming on Young Adult is expected to star in November.
