Aquaman

Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa has been rumoured to be up for a role in Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice for a while now, with various characters suggested and mentioned since the news first broke that he was in talks to star in the Man of Steel follow-up which leads into a Justice League movie.

However, it has now emerged (via HitFix, who have been very reliable in regards to superhero movie scoops as of late) that the role Momoa is up for is Aquaman, the King of Atlantis and founding member of the Justice League. Though this contradicts recent reports that he won’t be one of the characters making a cameo in Batman V Superman, the site has some details about why he makes an appearance here which make a lot of sense.

They reveal that Snyder has finalised designs for Aquaman in order to shoot his scenes as soon as possible. The reason for his appearance in Batman V Superman is apparently because, “he is not pleased about the World Engine and what it did to the Indian Ocean.” It’s said to be a cameo setting up a larger role in Justice League.

The site adds that Lex Luthor’s goal in the movie is to make Superman look like a monster after the destruction of Metropolis in Man of Steel, something which makes perfect sense for the villain played by Jesse Eisenberg.

This week has seen a lot of Justice League related rumblings, with one trade reporter claiming that Martian Manhunter and the villainous Max Lord will also be making an appearance in the movie.

Also, possibly confirming those recent reports of a Wonder Woman solo movie a couple of years from now, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara was asked on a recent conference call about the lack of the character on the big screen, and replied, “I agree with you we haven’t done as well as we potentially could do on the theatrical side. We have something we’re not ready to announce.”
