Jai Courtney

Earlier this month, it was revealed that both Jai Courtney (Jack Reacher) and Boyd Holbrook (The Host) were competing for the role of Kyle Reese in Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor’s Terminator: Genesis.

Despite the fact that Holbrook was said to be the favourite at the time, it has today been confirmed that Courtney will take on the role made famous by Michael Biehn in the James Cameron-helmed original for Paramount Pictures and Skydance.

Variety first reported on the casting, and the A Good Day to Die Hard star will be joined by a returning Arnold Schwarzenegger as the titular cyborg, Game Of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor and Zero Dark Thirty’s Jason Clarke as her son, John Connor. Little is known about the plot, although it is believed that the plan is for this to be the first instalment in a new trilogy.

Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier penned the script, while Courtney will next be seen in Divergent.

Terminator: Genesis is currently slated for a July 1st, 2015 release.
