Is Doug Liman Abandoning Three Musketeers for All You Need is Kill?

StumbleUponReddit

Exiting Cannes with a fair amount of buzz for his lastest movie Fair Game, Doug Liman was lining up a crack at Alexandre Dumas’ seminal swashbuckler The Three Musketeers, now it appears that is not the case.

Warner Bros had Liman’s Three Musketeers scheduled for production around the same time as Resident Evil director Paul W. S. Anderson was set to film a rival version, in 3D and with a cast which we now know to include Christoph Watlz, Orlando Bloom, Logan Lerman, Luke Evans, Matthew MacFayden,  and Anderson’s muse Milla Jovovich.

Now according to Deadline there’s a move to avoid the summer of The Six Musketeers, Liman has been orbiting All You Need is Kill, a Groundhog Day/Starship Troopers mash up, adapted by Dante Harper from the 2004 novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

This is Deadline’s summation of the source,

In All You Need is Kill, a soldier pressed into battle against a superior alien species, gets killed in action, and relives his last day alive over and over. Eventually, he sees things change, he becomes a better warrior and discovers hints that might be the key to altering the outcome.

No word on whether Warners will permanently lay their Three Musketeers project to rest, or where Liman’s rumoured Attica project sits if Liman takes on this new film, which sounds a little familiar to Duncan Jones’ follow to Moon, Source Code.
