Incredible First Footage, Score & Banners from Ang Lee’s Life of Pi

Oscar-winning director Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) takes on the adaptation of Yann Martel’s Life of Pi, and after the first image from the film surfaced back in April, the buzz kicked off for the film being a potential Oscar candidate.

The film’s official website has gone live, and with it comes the impressive first footage from the film, a handful of banners, and a fantastic first listen at Mychael Danna’s score for the film, which sounds beautiful.

Out in the US, the footage has been attached to the 3D screenings of Prometheus, so if you’re heading out to see that in the next few days, you’ll be able to enjoy that on the big screen.

Newcomer Suraj Sharma stars as the eponymous Pi, with a supporting cast headed up by Tobey Maguire, Gérard Depardieu, Irrfan Khan, and Tabu, and David Magee penning the script.

Courtesy of Waterstones, the synopsis for Martel’s original novel:

“After the tragic sinking of a cargo ship, a solitary lifeboat remains bobbing on the wild, blue Pacific. The only survivors from the wreck are a sixteen year-old boy named Pi, a hyena, a zebra (with a broken leg), a female orangutan – and a 450-pound Royal Bengal tiger. The scene is set for one of the most extraordinary and best-loved works of fiction in recent years.”

Life of Pi will be released in 3D on 21st November in the US, coming a little later to our shores on 21st December, just in time for Christmas. It’s going to be amazing, that much is all but guaranteed.

If you have a minute spare after watching the clip and seeing the banners (which you can click to enlarge), I’d definitely recommend heading over to the site to listen to the glimpse of the score – it’s wonderful.
