Having just seen Tom Hardy in the epic new IMAX TV Spot for The Dark Knight Rises earlier tonight, we’ve now got the fantastic second trailer for his second film of the summer, Lawless.
John Hillcoat directs Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, and Jason Clarke as the three Bondurant brothers, based on their true story, with support coming from Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Dane DeHaan, and Noah Taylor.
“LAWLESS is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. In this epic gangster tale, inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant’s family in his novel “The Wettest County in the World”, the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave.”
Hillcoat (The Road) is directing from a script penned by Nick Cave, who penned the director’s The Preposition, and has adapted the original novel by Matt Bondurant, The Wettest County in the World, which was previously to be the film’s name.
Lawless will be released by The Weinstein Company on 29th August in the US, followed by a UK release on 7th September. Given the terrific cast, the distributor, and the very strong reviews coming out of Cannes – you can read our own here – an awards campaign wouldn’t be out of the question come the end of the year. Here’s the new trailer to give you a taste of the brilliance we can expect from it.
