Jason-Statham-HummingbirdEach time a new Jason Statham trailer hits there’s a pretty good chance you’ll guess what’s in store. Stern looks, beatings, and a whole host of unsavoury shenanigans ensue…  this trailer for Steve Knight’s Hummingbird has the lot.

Statham is ex-special forces, dragging himself up from the streets he finds himself dumped on. The trailer gives a little away in terms of what narrative maypole the kicking and fighting will be dancing around and yet there’s something engaging about this one. The lighting in several shots is nice. Seeing Statham with long hair is fun. Benedict Wong makes an appearance which is diverting.

For me the key ingredient for this one is writer/director Steve Knight who started his career writing for Jasper Carrot (click here to view ‘his’ MySpace profile) and then went on to pen Dirty Pretty Things and whose next film as writer/director is Locke starring Tom Hardy and Olivia Colman. Nuts.

Trailer Ahoy,

[Update: The film’s UK release date has now officially been changed to 28th June, and we’ve updated the trailer below accordingly.]
