Arriving in the height of the summer blockbuster season, it’s no secret that DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon 2 is one of the most anticipated animated movies of the year.
The original movie took almost half a billion dollars at the box office, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see the sequel top its success in a few months’ time.
The studio launched the first full trailer just in time for Christmas, and have also been releasing a handful of character posters in recent weeks. And now a new international poster has surfaced online, with leading duo Hiccup and Toothless looking rather majestic as they soar through the sky.
The thrilling second chapter of the epic HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON trilogy brings us back to the fantastical world of Hiccup and Toothless five years after the two have successfully united dragons and vikings on the island of Berk. While Astrid, Snoutlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island’s new favorite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace. Now, Hiccup and Toothless must unite to stand up for what they believe while recognizing that only together do they have the power to change the future of both men and dragons.
Jay Baruchel returns to lead the voice cast as Hiccup, alongside Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller, and Kristen Wiig, with Kit Harington, Cate Blanchett, and Djimon Hounsou joining the roster for the sequel.
Dean DeBlois is back in the director’s chair, directing from his own script, loosely based on Cressida Cowell’s original series of books.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 will be released in 3D on June 13th in the US and 4th July here in the UK. In the meantime, here’s the new international poster, which you can click through to enlarge.
