With the world apparently scheduled to end next year, 2011 definitely had a filler-ish vibe, treading celluloid before the big end-of-existence finale.
Sure, there were a few hits – mostly indie fare, Marvel films and, strangely, Fast Five – but nothing really made that much of an impression. Good thing 2012 is on hand to blow minds, rock socks and generally flabber your gast. Next year I am mostly looking forward to The Woman In Black, Daniel Radcliffe’s first post-Potter role and likely the next hit to be scripted by Jane Goldman.
The Cabin In The Woods, Joss Whedon’s long-delayed subversion of the most traditional horror movie tropes. Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, the third instalment in DreamWork’s second greatest franchise (after How To Train Your Dragon, of course) and Resident Evil: Retribution, because everyone deserves at least one wild card. Ultimately, however, the upcoming year belongs to one movie, and one movie alone - The Avengers. Avengers will assemble, jaws will fall.
