HeyUGuys Reaction Shot – What are Your Most Anticipated Films of 2012?

Naturally, my list includes 2012’s biggest blockbusters – The Avengers, MIB III, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. But the ones that I plan on falling in love with even more (perhaps with the exception of TDKR) and talking about this time next year are the slightly lesser known ones that should be utterly brilliant:

Seth MacFarlane’s feature debut Ted is a case in point. Live-action, and with an animated teddy bear which MacFarlane will voice (with Mark Wahlberg co-leading) I can’t ask for much more.

Argo – Ben Affleck’s first two (Gone Baby Gone and The Town) are immense, and I think this is going to take him to the Oscars in 2013.

J. Edgar – One of the first times we’ll be seeing a darker side to Leonardo DiCaprio, and hotly tipped for the Oscars in February. I can’t wait.

Like Crazy – I’m a sucker for romance dramas, and with Felicity Jones and Anton Yelchin in the leads, having done so well at Sundance this year, I’m really looking forward to seeing this in February.

Gangster Squad – Ruben Fleischer, of Zombieland fame, taking on the gangster/action crime drama genre for the first time, set in 1940s L.A. It’s going to be brilliant.

Last but not least, Tarantino’s Django Unchained, in which DiCaprio will really be taking on the role of antagonist as the villainous ranch owner Calvin Candie. Due out next Boxing Day, it’s going to be the perfect way to see out the year in cinema.

‘Act of Valor’ looks like US Marine Corps propaganda in its purest form. Probably most excited by John Hillcoat’s ‘Wettest Country’, if only for the reunion of Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy.

Obviously not big Tolkien geeks around here, eh?…

The Hobbit first, no question.  Then Prometheus, and The Dark Knight Rises (although not as much as I was for TDK).  The Avengers and Spider-Man just look “meh”.

Are these people stupid? Have we forgotten what cinema is?? no one mentioned DJANGO UNCHAINED

  • Kenji Lloyd

Gonna have to call you on that, sir.

    a) that’s not very nice,and b) I definitely mentioned Django Unchained!

Tarantino’s going to be better than Santa next year come Christmas Day 2012.

You’re completely right about The Hobbit, in my head that’s just a given! (Dave Szt)

    OK, what’s cinema then?

I wrote my bit before I saw the trailer for The Hobbit. It’s certainly very pretty, and I’m really keen to find out how people respond to 48 FPS cinema, but still not completely sold on the film itself.
