her-PosterLast seen on the big screen back in 2009 with the acclaimed Where the Wild Things Are, writer-director Spike Jonze makes his long-awaited return this year with the equally anticipated her – typeset as ‘her’, rather than ‘Her’, according to the synopsis below.

Warner Bros. will be releasing the movie in just a few months’ time, and now they’ve launched the first trailer and poster over on Apple.

Set in Los Angeles, slightly in the future, “her” follows Theodore Twombly, a complex, soulful man who makes his living writing touching, personal letters for other people. Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he becomes intrigued with a new, advanced operating system, which promises to be an intuitive entity in its own right, individual to each user. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet “Samantha,” a bright, female voice, who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny. As her needs and desires grow, in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual love for each other.

From the unique perspective of Oscar-nominated filmmaker Spike Jonze comes an original love story that explores the evolving nature—and the risks—of intimacy in the modern world.

Joaquin Phoenix takes centre stage as Theodore Twombly (what a name), and he stars alongside a very promising cast, led by Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde, and Scarlett Johansson.

Jonze is once more directing from his own script, with Megan Ellison (Zero Dark Thirty, True Grit) producing alongside Jonze’s past collaborator, Vincent Landay (Adaptation., Being John Malkovich).

her will be released in the US on November 20th. No word as of yet on a UK release date, but here’s to hoping that that will soon be changing.
