Hansel-and-Gretel-Witch-Hunters-IMAX-PosterHansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is hitting US theatres this weekend, giving the classic fairy tale an interesting new take, filled with R-rated action.

The film went straight to #1 at the box office out in Russia over the weekend, making its international debut. And the odds are looking pretty good for it to do the same in the States in the coming days.

Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) and Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace) look awesome in the leads from what we’ve seen so far, most recently with a great new TV spot earlier in the week. And with just days before it arrives, Yahoo Movies have released a new red-band preview, somewhat unsuitable for work.

“After getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell-bent on retribution. Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches… their past.”

Renner and Arterton are joined by an excellent cast, headed up by Famke Janssen, Peter Stormare, Thomas Mann, and Zoe Bell.

Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola is making his English language debut at the helm, co-writing the script with Dante Harper (the upcoming All You Need Is Kill).

The early reviews for Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters have been positive so far. As we expected, it looks like there’s a lot of fun to be had here. Plenty of action for those seeking an adrenaline-fuelled blockbuster, and a great leading cast at the front and centre.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D in the US this Friday, 25th January. Here on our shores, we’ve slightly longer to wait, with its UK release date set for 22nd February. But all we’ve seen so far suggests it’s going to be worth the wait. For now, here’s the latest red-band preview to get you excited.

And one final warning, this is Not Suitable For Work. Enjoy.
