Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-Logo[UPDATED] Casting on James Gunn’s anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy has been coming together very nicely in recent weeks and months, with the blockbuster set to launch a new set of heroes as the penultimate film in Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Falling directly before Joss Whedon’s The Avengers 2 on Marvel’s slate, the film has been assembling an absolutely stellar cast. And now Deadline are confirming something we heard a couple weeks back, that John C. Reilly had been offered a part in the movie.

Reilly is now officially set to play Rhomann Dey, the leader of the Nova Corps in the 2014 tentpole.

We had initially heard that the actor would be playing a similarly titled character, Ronan the Accuser in the film. But now it’s been confirmed that he will in fact be playing the role of Rhomann Dey, confirming the part he was initially reported to have been offered.

As a huge fan of Reilly’s work, I love that he’s been cast in a blockbuster like this, with as big a potential as both the film and his role have.

Chris Pratt will be taking the lead on Guardians of the Galaxy as Star-Lord / Peter Quill, with Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Lee Pace, Benicio del Toro, Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, and now John C. Reilly all set to star alongside him.

Gunn is directing from a script first penned by Nicole Perlman and Chris McCoy, with Gunn doing a rewrite after coming on board to direct, and Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely most recently giving the script a polish.

Essentially, this is going to be so sweet.

Guardians of the Galaxy is set to hit cinemas on August 1st, 2014, and that’s definitely a release date you’ll want to start committing to memory.
