Gimme-Shelter-Poster-sliceVanessa Hudgens has been going from strength to strength in recent years, and her next movie, Gimme Shelter, promises to cement her status as one of the most promising actresses of her generation.

Based on a true story, the film stars Hudgens as pregnant teenager Agnes ‘Apple’ Bailey, who is forced onto the streets when her Wall Street father abandons her.

The first trailer has debuted over on Yahoo Movies, and it shows Hudgens every bit as unrecognisable as the set images led us to expect.

Gimme Shelter is based on the true story of “Apple” Bailey, a pregnant teenager turned away by her Wall Street father because of her decision to have her baby. Forced into the streets, she embarks on a desperate journey of survival to an underground shelter where a dedicated Housemother and a diverse group of girls help to change her life forever.

Rosario Dawson, Brendan Fraser, James Earl Jones, Stephanie Szostak, Emily Meade, and Ann Dowd complete the supporting cast alongside her, but it looks like this is very much Hudgens at centre stage throughout.

Ronald Krauss is directing from his own script, and Kruass also produces with Jeff Rice (End of Watch, The Frozen Ground).

Gimme Shelter is set to be released in the US early next year on January 24th. No word yet on a UK release date, but here’s to hoping that it will be crossing the Atlantic soon after, because this promises to be yet another strong performance from Hudgens following the likes of Spring Breakers and The Frozen Ground this year.
