Frances Ha UK posterHaving spent much of the past nine months on the festival circuit, Noah Baumbach’s Frances Ha is finally just a few weeks away from its UK release and we have the first look at the very snazzy UK poster as well as the trailer which accompanies it.

The film premiered at Telluride last September, and followed it soon after with an appearance at TIFF – you can read our review here – and it’s earned terrific reviews in the months since then.

Having now made its UK debut at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, Baumbach’s film will soon be heading into our cinemas, and Metrodome have released the UK variant of the trailer.

Frances (Greta Gerwig) lives in New York, but she doesn’t really have an apartment. Frances is an apprentice for a dance company, but she’s not really a dancer. Frances has a best friend named Sophie, but they aren’t really speaking anymore. Frances throws herself headlong into her dreams, even as their possible reality dwindles. Frances wants so much more than she has but lives her life with unaccountable joy and lightness.

FRANCES HA is a modern comic fable that explores New York, friendship, class, ambition, failure, and redemption.

Greta Gerwig is front and centre as the eponymous Frances. And she stars alongside Mickey Sumner, Adam Driver, Michael Zegen, and Patrick Heusinger.

Baumbach is directing from a script he co-wrote with Gerwig, with Baumbach also producing alongside Rodrigo Teixeira and past collaborators Lila Yacoub (Greenberg) and Scott Rudin (Margot at the Wedding).

The cut below is essentially the same as the first US trailer, but with different quotes. But one minor difference that strikes me as apt is the intertitle, ‘This Summer’, rather than ‘This Spring’. The film immediately struck me as having a summer feel upon first viewing, so it seems like a good fit that it’s arriving here in the UK in the summer.

Baumbach’s low-budget feature has already found excellent success across the Atlantic since its release last month, racking up roughly $3m., which is very much an impressive feat for its limited release.

Frances Ha is now playing in the US, and will be released here in the UK on July 26th. Wherever you’re reading this, I highly recommend you seek the film out, because it is sure to be one of the best films you see this year.

Here’s the new UK poster and the trailer follows below, as always click to make Greta and her poster big.
