Don-Jon-PosterDon Jon marks the anticipated directorial debut from Joseph Gordon-Levitt, last seen on the big screen in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln and Rian Johnson’s outstanding Looper.

Gordon-Levitt has been building up his credits in recent years, working on a slew of shorts in various capacities as writer, director, editor and/or producer, and Don Jon marks his long-awaited feature debut.

With the film set to hit cinemas in the US in just a few weeks, Relativity have followed up the latest trailer with the first TV spot, airing during the MTV VMAs over the weekend.

Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to “pull” a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn’t compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old fashioned girl. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she’s determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Gordon-Levitt takes the lead as the eponymous Don Jon, and he stars alongside Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Tony Danza, Brie Larson, Glenne Headly, and Rob Brown.

Gordon-Levitt is directing from his own script, with Ram Bergman (Looper, Brick) producing.

Don Jon will be released in the US on September 27th, with its UK release date (rather unfortunately) arriving a good while later on 15th November. In the meantime, here’s the great first TV spot to give you a little tease. (Sorry, couldn’t help it.) Enjoy.
