Starring the Oscar-nominated Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air) in the lead, Pitch Perfect is a comedy/musical revolving around a college a cappella group determined to win the championship held at New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall.
We saw the excellent first poster earlier this week (which I’ve also included below, in its updated larger size), and now Yahoo Movies have debuted the fantastic first trailer and images for the film.
It’s not that often we get the chance to enjoy a cappella on the big screen (or anywhere else, for that matter), so I for one am definitely going to be taking advantage when Pitch Perfect hits later this year.
“Beca is that girl who’d rather listen to what’s coming out of her headphones than what’s coming out of you. Arriving at her new college, she finds herself not right for any clique but somehow is muscled into one that she never would have picked on her own: alongside mean girls, sweet girls and weird girls whose only thing in common is how good they sound when they sing together.
When Beca takes this acoustic singing group out of their world of traditional arrangements and perfect harmonies into all-new mash-ups, they fight to climb their way to the top of the cutthroat world of college “a cappella.” This could wind up either the coolest thing they’ll ever do or the most insane, and it will probably be a little of both.”
Avenue Q’s John Moore, whose directing credits also include episodes of One Tree Hill and Brothers & Sisters, is making what looks to be an impressive feature directorial debut, working from a script by 30 Rock’s Kay Cannon, who adapts Mickey Rapkin’s original non-fiction book.
As you can see in the trailer, Kendrick has plenty of excellent company starring alongside her, including Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Alexis Knapp, and Adam DeVine, not to mention the brilliant comedy actor John Michael Higgins, with Elizabeth Banks serving as producer.
Pitch Perfect will be released on 5th October in the US, before coming to our shores slightly later for a 19th October release. We’ve still got a few months to wait, but here’s the first trailer and to get you excited in case you weren’t already. And as usual with the first images and poster beneath it (which suggests in its own way that we’ll be getting individual character posters somewhere down the line), you can click to enlarge. Enjoy.
