The Red Dawn remake has been a long time coming, originally scheduled for release back in 2010, but was delayed after studio MGM got into financial difficulties, seeing a number of their films put on the shelf.
In a few months, it will finally see the light of day, and now the first sneak peek at the upcoming trailer has gone online, along with two new images.
“In Red Dawn, a city in Washington state awakens to the surreal sight of foreign paratroopers dropping from the sky – shockingly, the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target. Quickly and without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fight back, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding woods, training and reorganizing themselves into a guerilla group of fighters. Taking inspiration from their high school mascot, they call themselves the Wolverines, banding together to protect one another, liberate their town from its captors, and take back their freedom.”
The film has an impressive cast, headed up by Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Josh Peck, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, with long-time stunt coordinator Dan Bradley (the Bourne films, Three Kings) making his directorial debut.
Given that Hemsworth, in particular, has been on the rise as a leading man in a big way since the initially-intended 2010 release, alongside Hutcherson’s rise with The Hunger Games’ success this year, the delay may well turn out to work in the film’s favour, with more and more people familiar with the stellar cast.
Red Dawn is set to hit US theatres on 21st November, and though there’s no UK release date set yet, it’s sure to just be a matter of time. We’ve not got too many action films heading our way towards the end of the year, and this would no doubt be a popular one. For now, here’s your first sneak peek at the trailer, along with the two new images. Let us know what you think of it in the comments below.
