J.J. Abrams’ first Star Trek film back in 2009 was a huge success, and after taking more than $380m. at the box office, a sequel is now underway with many of the main cast returning as well as some great new faces.
The first photos from the set have now landed, courtesy of MTV via Collider, in which we get to see Zachary Quinto’s Spock battling it out with Benedict Cumberbatch’s as-yet-unknown villain, and Zoe Saldana’s Uhura joining the fight too.
Along with Quinto, Cumberbatch, and Saldana, the impressive cast also includes the likes of Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Alice Eve, Bruce Greenwood, and Noel Clarke. As you can imagine, plot details are being kept very much under wraps, but everyone’s expecting something awesome.
Co-writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are returning to write the script along with Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof, with J.J. Abrams taking the helm once more for what is already one of 2013’s most highly anticipated films, with a release scheduled for 17th May next year. Here are the first images from the set to get your anticipation rising.
And to go with that, Simon Pegg and Karl Urban have put out a short video wishing 2000AD Comics a Happy 35th Birthday whilst filming, giving us a glimpse of Urban’s uniform beneath his jacket.
