Written and directed by Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother), Liberal Arts was one of the fourteen films selected from the US Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to come to Sundance London this past weekend.
I saw the film on the first night of the festival and absolutely loved it, and highly recommend you to seek it out when it comes to the UK in a few months’ time.
The lovely first poster has now surfaced online, showing off Radnor and Elizabeth Olsen in the leads, with a supporting cast that includes Richard Jenkins, Allison Janney, Zac Efron, and Elizabeth Reaser.
“Newly single, 35, and uninspired by his job, Jesse Fisher worries that his best days are behind him. But no matter how much he buries his head in a book, life keeps pulling Jesse back. When his favourite college professor invites him to campus to speak at his retirement dinner, Jesse jumps at the chance. He is prepared for the nostalgia of the dining halls and dorm rooms, the parties and poetry seminars; what he doesn’t see coming is Zibby – a beautiful, precocious, classical-music-loving sophomore. Zibby awakens scary, exciting, long-dormant feelings of possibility and connection that Jesse thought he had buried forever.”
The film marks Radnor’s second credit as both writer and director, having made his debut with Happythankyoumoreplease, which took the Audience Award at its Sundance debut two years ago.
Liberal Arts was picked up by IFC Films for North American distribution this autumn, and has been acquired by Revolver Entertainment and Picturehouse Entertainment for its UK release this autumn too. For now, here’s the lovely first poster, which you can click to enlarge. With its release only a few short months away, I think we can look forward to the first trailer surfacing within the next few weeks.
