After undergoing a slight name change last month, The Watch (previously titled Neighborhood Watch) stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade as the four members of a suburban neighbourhood watch, making for a brilliant comedy/sci-fi line-up.
The film had already debuted its first poster under its original name, but now Apple have released the first official poster for the film since being renamed, The Watch.
“Four everyday suburban guys come together to form a neighborhood watch group, but only as an excuse to escape their humdrum lives one night a week. But when they accidentally discover that their town has become overrun with aliens posing as ordinary suburbanites, they have no choice but to save their neighborhood–and the world–from total extermination.”
Directed by Akiva Schaffer (SNL regular, Hot Rod), the film has been penned by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Jared Stern, with Billy Crudup, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Will Forte filling out the supporting cast very nicely.
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s penning of the script alone would have guaranteed my cinema ticket, and adding to that Schaffer behind the camera along with Stiller, Vaughn, Hill, and Ayoade in the lead, things can’t go wrong.
The Watch will be released in the US on 27th July, before coming to us a month later in the UK for a 29th August release. I have a feeling its US release won’t see it taking impressively big numbers in its opening weekend, coming just one week after The Dark Knight Rises, but here’s to hoping it will still find its audience and find legs in the successive weeks. It looks like it should be a lot of fun.
And in case you missed it, I’ve embedded the latest red-band trailer beneath it. If you’re reading this at work, don’t press play.
