The adaptation is being given a limited release in the US this side of the New Year, making it eligible for the upcoming awards season, and it will be very interesting to see if Reitman’s work appears at the Oscars this year, following the absence of Young Adult last year.

With just a few short weeks before its debut at TIFF, the first image has debuted over on EW, giving us a look at the leading trio in the film.

“LABOR DAY” centers on 13-year-old Henry Wheeler, who struggles to be the man of his house and care for his reclusive mother Adele while confronting all the pangs of adolescence. On a back-to-school shopping trip, Henry and his mother encounter Frank Chambers, a man both intimidating and clearly in need of help, who convinces them to take him into their home and later is revealed to be an escaped convict. The events of this long Labor Day weekend will shape them for the rest of their lives.

Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin star alongside the young Gattlin Griffith, with Tobey Maguire, Clark Gregg, JK Simmons, Brooke Smith, and James Van Der Beek completing an impressive ensemble.

Reitman is directing from his own script, adapting the novel of the same name by Joyce Maynard.

Labor Day will be given an Oscar-qualifying early release in the US from Christmas Day, before opening wide on January 31st, and heading across the Atlantic for a 7th February UK release date.
