Hercules 2

Hercules surprised everyone with a fun first trailer, and now Paramount have released a short clip which sees Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Hurt dealing with an ambush.

Based on Radical Comics’ Hercules: The Thracian Wars series, the big screen adaptation will be directed by Brett Ratner and picks up with a slightly older and more experienced Hercules. There’s undoubtedly franchise potential here, especially with a star like The Rock in the titular role.

The movie promises to deliver a far more serious take on Hercules, and should help wash away the bad taste left earlier this year by The Legend of Hercules, which starred Twilight’s Kellan Lutz.

What do you guys think of this first clip from the movie?

Everyone knows the legend of Hercules and his twelve labors. Our story begins after the labors, and after the legend. Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail… he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercules.

Also starring, Aksel Hennie, Rufus Sewell, Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes, John Hurt, Rebecca Ferguson and Tobias Santelmann, Hercules is set to hit theaters July 25th, 2014.
