I’ll admit I was a sceptic at first, but all that we’ve seen over the past few months from Peter Berg’s Battleship has convinced me that we’re in for a lot of fun when it’s released tomorrow. Berg’s last feature was the awesome Hancock, and no more needs to be said beyond that.
After getting a handful of trailers, posters, and featurettes, the first clip from the film has now gone online, showing off the impressive, explosive special effects that we can look forward to on the big screen.
“Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs the May 18, 2012 release, an epic action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Based on Hasbro’s classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancée; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper’s older brother, Commanding Officer Stone of the USS Samson; Rihanna as Lt. Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane.”
Brothers Jon and Erich Hoeber (Red) have penned the script, and the fantastic cast features the likes of Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Liam Neeson, Brooklyn Decker, Josh Pence, Tadanobu Asano, and of course, Rihanna, who makes her acting debut.
Dave caught up with Berg himself last week, and you can watch that interview right here. And be sure to check back later today when we’ll have an interview with Kitsch, and again tomorrow for a talk with Decker.
Battleship is due out in cinemas from tomorrow, 11th April, here in the UK, and will be getting a slightly later release in the US on 18th May. And it isn’t being released in 3D, so it won’t cost you a penny/cent more than anything else in your local theatres to see it. To whet your appetites for tomorrow (or next month, if you’re reading this in the US), here’s the first clip for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy.
