Will Smith, Josh Brolin, Alice Eve, Emma Thompson and Nicole Scherzinger were all in attendance and we got to speak to many of them as they walked the blue carpet for the movie which comes out next Friday, 25th May. We also got to see and chat with the film’s director, Barry Sonnenfeld.

Lewis Hamilton and Jay Z also made a surprise appearance to wow the crowd and I would say that Jay Z had just as big a cheer as Will Smith did when he arrived. I also spotted Michelle Rodriguez who managed to slip up the carpet unnoticed by most flanked by two big men while she had the dark shades on which pretty much says, ‘don’t talk to me’!

I was on camera duties as Ben Mortimer asked the questions to the cast as they walked the carpet. All the interviews are below each separated into their individual film so click play and enjoy.

With two Oscar-nominated actresses co-leading a project about making a difference with the problems in American education, you can be sure that we’re in for great things in Won’t Back Down.

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis lead the cast alongside Oscar Isaac, Ving Rhames, and Holly Hunter, and the first trailer for the film has just debuted at Yahoo Movies.

Daniel Barnz (Beastly) is directing from his own script, co-written by Brin Hill, and inspired by a true story. Judging from this trailer, the film will almost certainly be gaining strong Oscar buzz later this year, with a US release set for September, making it a prime candidate for the awards campaigns heading into the end of 2012.

“Two mothers from different backgrounds–a postal worker and a reporter–join forces to take on a failing public school system and institute a charter school for children in the neighborhood, including their own.”

Whilst it’s naturally still very early days yet, with Viola Davis coming off her Oscar nomination in The Help, it’s definitely a possibility that one (or both) of her and Gyllenhaal will be entering the Oscar race in the Best Actress category, and quite possible that Won’t Back Down will be in the coveted Best Picture category, too.

I don’t want to jump the gun, but this is a project I’ve been really looking forward to, and this first trailer has made my spine tingle (in part because the music sets the tone brilliantly). Very promising, hitting all the right notes.

Won’t Back Down will be released in the US by 20th Century Fox on 28th September. No word yet on a UK release date, but given the talent involved, and the subject material, I’d guess there’s no way we won’t get it here to help push the awards appeal. More as we get it. For now, the brilliant first trailer for Won’t Back Down. Enjoy.

Is this the biggest story of the day? Bigger than say, Rio Ferdinand being left out of the England squad while crocks like John Terry an Steven Gerrard get chosen? OK, sorry..it hurts. Anyway, Microsoft have today announced they are to release a Limited Edition version of their highly anticipated Halo 4.

Oh, sorry…NO WAY MAN. I TOTALLY DIDN’T EXPECT THIS.

I remember when ‘Halo: Reach’ came out, their Special Edition was sweet, in a wonderfully presented box full of goodies. If the past is anything to go by, those who can afford such luxuries are certainly in for a treat.

Here’s the rundown of everything included:

The Limited Edition will be fairly feature packed and will include the following:

War Games Map Pack Access – The Limited Edition includes access to nine maps – three future competitive multiplayer map packs, each including three locations, available for download post-launch on Xbox LIVE. (A detailed release schedule for the map packs will be announced at a later time)

Specializations – Receive early access to six Specializations, available at launch on Xbox LIVE, to achieve higher ranks in your Spartan career. In addition to gaining access to new ranks, Specializations unlock new customization options. Purchasers of the “Halo 4″ Limited Edition will get access on launch day, while others will have to wait as Specializations are released over time.

The Limited Edition also contains the UNSC Infinity Briefing Packet, which includes an armor customization schematic, a blueprint of the massive ship itself, and insight into what it means to be one of humanity’s finest warriors: the Spartan-IVs.

Bonus digital content through Xbox LIVE:

Unique in-game Spartan-IV armor skin.

Unique in-game weapon skin for the Assault Rifle.

An exclusive in-game emblem.

Xbox LIVE Avatar prop.

Xbox LIVE Avatar Spartan-IV armor set.

“Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn” Special Edition – An extended 90-minute version of the live-action digital series that will bring the “Halo” universe to life as you’ve never seen it, and provide an enthralling backstory leading up to the events of “Halo 4.”

“Halo 4″ Limited Edition also includes the following exclusive videos:

Bonus in-fiction content expanding the characters and stories of
“Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn”

Special Featurette: Bringing Gaming into Reality

Making of “Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn”

The press release also featured a funky tease of ’20 days and counting’. Bring on E3.

It’s expected to sell for around £79.99. Keep your ears on HeyUGuys for more information as and when it comes in.

‘Halo 4′ drops on the 6th of November.

When their hard saved for honeymoon is cancelled the day after the wedding, the newlyweds have no choice but to return to the Dutt household and set up home there.

As prying family members and gossipy neighbours conspire to keep the couple from consummating their marriage, Atul and Vina start to panic. But if they can just keep their situation private, and if they can just get a bit of time alone, all could be saved for this pair.

So with meddling parents, nosey neighbours and a community that thrives on gossip, can their marriage last?

ALL IN GOOD TIME is directed by NIGEL COLE (Calendar Girls, Made In Dagenham) and is in cinemas now.

After watching the methodical and laborious techniques used to create Walt (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse’s (Aaron Paul) ‘special’ blue crystal meth for two whole, addictive seasons, we should all be experts in the production of the illegal substance by now. But that was never the show’s intent and, after what the partners have been through, who’d want to run a drug ring anyway?

Rejoining Walter White and co. after the plane crash that overshadowed Season Two’s prologues, things aren’t looking great for Walt. His cancer may be in remission and baby Holly born, but wife Skyler (Anna Gunn) has filed for divorce after the revelation of the infamous second cell phone. Though it may be incredibly hard to sympathise with Skyler, Gunn makes her so fun to hate that your opinion on her may change in the final few episodes when her scheming becomes integral to the story.

With Walter Jr. (RJ Mitte) trapped in the middle of his domicile’s stalemate, Season Three flips the White-Pinkman dynamic on its head and makes way for individual struggles with even Hank (Dean Norris) and Marie (Betsy Brandt) finding a wedge driven between them as Hank’s pride stands in the way of opening up about the horrors of El Paso.

Things aren’t particularly peachy for Jesse, either, still in rehab and feeling entirely responsible for Jane’s (Krysten Ritter) death and the plane crash that her air control father helped cause. Incredibly guarded – especially when the hilarious, yet inappropriate Saul Goodman’s (Bob Odenkirk) around – and listening to Jane’s voicemail over and over, Pinkman’s heartbreaking state finally lets Aaron Paul let rip and provide his most desperate and striking scenes to date.

Though Walt and Jesse are still very much seen as partners to those who work around them, Season Three doesn’t see them share any proper screen time until Episode Ten (‘The Fly’ – the best of a stellar bunch), instead focusing on domestic problems and the ongoing hunt for Heisenberg by both DEA and numerous other vigilantes. This episode serves to show just how much their escapades are missed, bouncing off one another with ease and proving how well teamed Cranston and Paul are. It is also testament to how brilliantly scripted Breaking Bad is, with the duo’s poisonous relationship disregarded in favour of some incredibly tender moments.

Although it may feel there’s less action this time around, there is plenty of tension that builds throughout the thirteen episodes as we witness the fallout from Tuco’s death. While tactics get dirtier, there is a new threat in the form of two very large, very silent and very tattooed Mexican brothers, while the incredibly polite yet deadly Gus (Giancarlo Esposito) gets far more deserved time in the spotlight. With so many supporting roles (Mike, Victor, Gale, etc – even Wendy gets her own brilliant montage), Breaking Bad could easily feel packed to the brim with underdeveloped characters, but every episode is so well written and compelling that you’ll wish everyone had their own spinoff.

A programme that requires you to religiously follow every twist and turn (and why wouldn’t you want to?), director Vince Gilligan rewards loyal viewers with treats that relate back to much earlier episodes, proving himself incredibly capable of clever and attentive direction. While you’ll revel in the stillness of the sporadic long, compelling takes, Breaking Bad has in no way lost its zing, quirk or remarkably realistic craziness. With an ominous cloud of danger present from start to finish, the delectable yet sparse violence is always worth waiting for on the way to another heart stopping crescendo of a climax.

Eight new images have made their way online, featuring Paltrow, Ruffalo, Robbins, and some of the great supporting cast, which includes Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck), Josh Gad (Love and Other Drugs), Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous), Isiah Whitlock, Jr. (The Wire), and Pink (you know who Pink is).

Co-written by Blumberg and Matt Winston (making his writing debut), the plot looks a little something like this:

“Dramatic comedy follows a group of unlikely friends brought together through their shared determination to recover from sex addiction as they try to forge meaningful relationships for the first time in their lives.”

Edward Norton is exec. producer, with his production company, Class 5 Films (Leaves of Grass), co-producing the movie alongside Olympus Pictures (Beginners, Rabbit Hole).

The film marks another collaboration between Blumberg and Ruffalo, with Ruffalo earning himself an Oscar nomination too for The Kids Aren’t Alright, as well as another collaboration with Ed Norton, having penned Norton’s directorial debut, Keeping the Faith.

Not to mention, of course, another collaboration for Ruffalo and Paltrow, starring in the box office destroyer, The Avengers, which is steadily making its way up the list of the highest-grossing films of all time.

Having found great success with his scripts so far, it will be interesting to see what Blumberg is like behind the camera. I’m guessing: pretty awesome.

Thanks for Sharing will be released in the US on 9th August. As yet, no word on when we can expect it in the UK. But here’s to hoping that it will be coming to our shores later this year too. Having Ruffalo, Paltrow, and Robbins in the leads will hopefully help its case. For now, the great new images from the film. Enjoy.

The pictures have been removed at the request of the studio. Which is a shame as they were rather good. Oh well.

As the title suggests, the festival celebrates independent filmmaking and the choice of features this year represented an encouraging mix of genres (the full list of films can be found on the festival’s website.)

Airborne

Boasting a number of familiar faces from popular genre films of the past (including ‘Last Crusade’ villain Julian Glover and a certain farm boy-turned Jedi Knight) Airborne follows a group of misfit passengers on a night flight to New York who get more than they bargained for during their stormy journey.

A number of stars from the film were in attendance on the Friday, including Andrew Shim (better known as ‘Milky’ from the This is England series). Playing a soldier who gets involved in the mid-air carnage, we asked how it felt to be given the opportunity to do an action role:

“I’ve done fight scenes before but I’ve never been involved in an actual, full-on action role. This was the first time I was offered the chance to do that and I was really grateful for it.”

He also talked briefly about his role in Airborne director Dominic Burns’ next feature, UFO:

“I did an action scene with [the film’s co-star Jean Claude] Van Damme and it was frickin awesome. I’d love to say I kicked his ass, but that wasn’t the case. I was a big fan of his films when I was younger so it was really fantastic to appear alongside him.”

Co-star and fellow soldier Peter Barrett talked about the unique filming environment:

“It was an exciting shoot, and I always referenced Die Hard 2 when I chatted to the director about the film. We shot most of the scenes in an old, decommissioned Boeing 747 and it was just like being a big kid really. Running up and down the aisles and going crazy.”

Another co-star (and one of the film’s Executive Producers) Simon Philips on Mark Hamill:

“He was such a nice guy. His agent warned us about bringing up Star Wars beforehand but he was very open and gracious about sharing his memories of those films.

He hadn’t done any films roles for a while, but he used to live in London and his eldest son was born over here. We got one of the producers to send the script over to him and one thing lead to another, and before we knew it, he came onboard.”

Despite an interesting premise (and a surprisingly strong turn by Hamill) Airborne doesn’t quite live up to nail-biting thriller/horror hybrid promised. It’s a shame as the film’s creative team (they were behind the recent How to Stop Being a Loser) have made good use of what is obviously a small budget for a film of this scope. Director Burns also knows how to stage some effective fight scenes and a couple of fun moments of suspense, but given its Twilight Zone-esque, B-movie set-up, it doesn’t quite go as far out there as it could have.

Jump

This gentle fish-out-of-water romantic drama was the first feature-length presentation on Saturday, and it won over the audience almost immediately with its touching and sympathetic central performance by TV regular Claire Price, and luscious picture postcard backdrop.

The story of a London city girl returning to her childhood roots in the picturesque surroundings of a small village in Italian Switzerland is the impressive debut of actor-turn-filmmaker Bindu De Stoppani. Loosely based on her own upbringing, De Stoppani’s story of reconnecting to the past manages to rise above some of the clichés inherent in such material to present a charming and laid back study of love and redemption.

We spoke to the director about the screening:

“I’m really excited to be here. I trained as an actress and at the age of 21 I appeared in [Danny Boyle’s] The Beach and we had our premiere here in Empire screen 1, so it feels strange to come back as a director with this one.”

On her transition from actress to director:

“I’ve always been interested in film. When I was 16 I made a feature film, but acting was my path in. I started a theatre company in which I directed some plays and from there I realised film was more my cup of tea. I did a variety of shorts and took some directing courses before I embarked on this feature.

With Jump, I’m part Swiss and I have contacts in Switzerland because a TV channel over there had financed a couple of my shorts, so I thought it was a natural process to present them the script and they loved it, and ended up part-funding it and that set the whole thing off.”

NB: Unsurprisingly, Jump ended up winning best film, best director and best actress for Price.

Ecstasy

This adaptation of a short story from celebrated Scottish writer Irvine Welsh was the second film to screen on Saturday, although it’s been on general release for almost a month now.

The story follows a twenty-something small-time drug dealer called Lloyd (a star-making turn by Adam Sinclair) who lives for the weekends where he can large it up with his fellow revellers (including, in a wiry and bold turn, Lord of the Rings’ Billy Boyd).

His party attitude and hedonistic lifestyle is called into question when he meets and falls in love with a Canadian expat (Kristin Kreuk), but can he make a clean break from wannabe gangster Solo, whom he owes money to and acts as a drug mule in an attempt to pay off his forever escalating debts.

While Ecstasy remains fairly watchable and captures that lifestyle pretty well, it lacks the energy and verve which made similarly-themed explorations into the chemical culture like Trainspotting and Human Traffic so special. With its freeze-frames and character title cards it also feels like a by-product of that era, instead of a nostalgic revisit. Still, the edgy and charismatic Sinclair is a name to watch, and its fun to see Smallville’s Lana Lang in a grubby Edinburgh nightclub, munching pills and ‘aving it on the dance floor.

Flutter

This odd fantasy film comes across as a weird, London-set distant relative to the stunning, cerebral 2001 Spanish thriller Intacto.

A career gambler named John (Mackenzie Crook lookalike Joe Anderson) finds his world begins to fall apart when he meets a mysterious female bookie at his local dog track. Initially winning a large sum of cash off her, the wagers she begins offering him and his two buddies grow weirder and more outrageous. Soon the stakes are raised so high that John runs to risk of losing everything he holds dear in his life, including his ridiculously understanding and supportive wife (played by Laura Fraser).

A morality play with a Tales of the Unexpected-type vibe, Flutter starts off resembling one of Guy Richie’s earlier mockney efforts (complete with a cool Northern Soul soundtrack) before spiralling off into something else entirely.

While the film is a little rough around the edges and ultimately falls short of its ambitions, it’s often very humorous and director Giles Borg should be praised for attempting to do something outside of the norm (particularly regarding low-budget British cinema) and seeing the Fast Show’s Mark Williams sat nesting on an ostrich egg within a gigantic birds nest is a wonderfully surreal sight.

Having a console with touch capabilities, gyroscopic sensors and other nifty tricks seems like the perfect home for a game that was made famous thanks to it’s slice and dice gameplay and over the top bloody move sets.

Neatherrealm Studios clearly thought the same and bought Mortal Kombat to Sony’s hand-held box of tricks that is the PlayStation Vita. But how does it play with those teeny tiny buttons? Bloody excellent is your answer.

If you have ever played a Mortal Kombat game before, you know just what to expect, a wealth of characters from Earth Realm or Nether Realm are all battling to see who can spill the most claret, or is that save the world? I forget sometimes. The gore is here the fatalities are here, as are the brand new X-ray moves introduced in the console reboot. Add to that the story mode, two challenge towers (one especially catered for the Vita’s unique skills) The Krypt of un-lockables is all present and correct. PLUS, you even get all the DLC thrown in too including playable characters Freddy Krueger and Kratos. Which gives you one hell of a hand-held package!

The story mode is brilliant; it sees you take control of most of the games characters as you attempt to stop Shao Khan destroying Earth Realm for good. It works really well because the story dictates which characters you use, which works out nicely as you get to explore some characters you normally wouldn’t have chosen. The Challenge Tower is equally as good, pitting your player against 200 odd challenges from fighting upside-down to not getting hit. If you have played the console version, nothing much as changed in this respect. Unlike the graphics, which have been downgraded somewhat. They’re not as good as the PS3 even though the Vita is more than capable of achieving the same results. What this boils down to is the rather pleasant transition from fighting to cut scene is all but gone. Instead Netherrealm studios have opted for the CGI route, leaving a sour taste in your mouth as you go from in-game engine to super smooth CGI. Not a deal breaker by any means, just more of a disappointment.

Special to the Vita version is the second Challenge Tower, a tower specially catered for the PlayStation Vita, Taps, swipes, tilts and shakes make your player inflict all kinds of pain on the poor hapless foes. If you have ever played Fruit Ninja, you’ll feel right at home. They work well enough, with the Vita’s screen picking up your various screen inputs with ease. but you have seen most of the tricks done before on the other touch devices. Just not as gory, or fun for that matter.

If you’re worried about how the game actually plays on the small Vita, don’t be, I actually think it plays better on the Hand-held than it does on console. Simply because the Vita’s D-pad is excellent and picks up each move with accuracy. I found it a breeze to pull of some blood flowing finishers with just a few taps and on the first attempt too, which was unheard of on the console big brother.

Mortal Kombat is the pinnacle of hand-held fighters, it has an astonishing amount of content for a hand-held game and the gameplay is spot on and easily accessible. Because of this, the dip in graphical fidelity can be forgiven. If you have the game on console, there is nothing here that would want to make you purchase the game again, unless you really want to chop people up on the bus. But if its portable fisty cuffs that you really want, you can ‘t get much better than this.

The US is only a few shorts weeks away from seeing the third instalment in the Madagascar series hit the big screen, and after getting the first full-length trailer back in March, the first clip from the film has now made its way online.

Co-directed by original directors from the first two films, Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath, and joined by Conrad Vernon (Monsters vs. Aliens), the film sees the return of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith, Cedric the Entertainer, Andy Richter, and of course Sacha Baron Cohen voicing the beloved King Julien, with Bryan Cranston and Jessica Chastain topping the newcomers.

“Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo, and Melman the Giraffe are still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple and of course, King Julien, Maurice and the Penguins are all along for the comedic adventure. Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a traveling circus, which they reinvent – Madagascar style.”

Darnell penned the original script, with the ever-brilliant Noah Baumbach doing a re-write, so it’s safe to say that we’re in for a great family comedy that should appeal to all ages. The sequel, Escape 2 Africa, was absolutely brilliant, to expect another awesome return with the latest instalment.

Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted will be making its way to US theatres in 3D on 8th June, after debuting at Cannes this month. Here in the UK, for reasons that escape me entirely, we’ve got longer to wait, with its release set for 19th October. Here’s the first clip to tie you over, which debuted over at Yahoo Movies. Enjoy.

Back in 2004, writer-director Adam McKay made one of the most memorable comedy directorial debuts with Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, which turned co-writer Will Ferrell into a household name overnight.

The film took a healthy $90m., and has of course gone on to become a fairly staple item in the comedy sections of many people’s film collections.

There’s been talk of doing a sequel for a few years now, and finally just over a month ago, McKay and Ferrell confirmed that they’d be getting the gang back together for a second go-around, officially titled Anchorman: The Legend Continues.

The US is lucky enough to be treated to a short teaser trailer attached to the studio’s latest film, The Dictator, which goes into studios today. And in honour of that, they’re also setting the Internet alight by putting out the first poster ahead of its release next year, which instantly sets the tone: comedy genius.

Exactly when we can expect it isn’t known, because it’s still early days on the project yet, but this is definitely one to keep an eye on. The teaser trailer will hopefully be surfacing online very soon too, and we’ll be sure to bring it to you as soon as it does.

Ferrell and McKay, frequent collaborators over the years, should be penning the script once more, with McKay set to return behind the camera, and naturally, Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and David Koechner will all be reprising their roles from the first film. This should be a lot of fun. As usual with this first poster, you can click to enlarge.

Arjun: The Warrior Prince is a mythological action adventure where we follow Arjun from a young boy to the legendary warrior that he became.

A teaser was released a few months ago but this is the first full trailer we get to see and funnily enough the character design seems very similar to that other religious animated movie by rival animation studio Dreamworks. The movie seems to be a mix of 2D styled characters on a 3D background which seems to feel a bit of an odd sense but usually these shots get refined closer to release (Remember how weird the first shots of the Hulk were in the first Avengers trailer?)

Directed by Arnab Chaudari and music by the awesome duo of Vishal Shekhar, there is a great market for animation but the audience need to accept it as something that adults can also enjoy, which doesn’t seem to be the case with some of the previous animated features like Roadside Romeo. And knowing some of the themes in Arjun’s story, it would definitely be interesting for grown ups to watch, even if you consider the movie as a learning experience about Hindu Mythology aside from Heidi Klum playing dress up for Halloween.

Here is a synopsis:
Legend knows him as an archer of unwavering focus, the soldier who fought a battle in his own heart before taking up arms against his enemy. This is the untold story of Arjun, hero of the Mahabharata. A precocious talent plunged from boyhood and innocence into a murky world of deceit and betrayal, coming of age to become the most powerful warrior of his time. From the dusty plains of Hastinapur to the icy peaks of the Himalayas, Arjun: The Warrior Prince is the story of a man discovering what it takes to be a hero.

Are you excited for Arjun: The Warrior Prince?

Sony have announced that they will be holding another ‘PlayStation Vita Heaven’ broadcast next month. I say announced but it was more of a tease from Computer Entertainment Japan CEO Hiroshi Kawano.

The previous broadcast was in March where the showcased some of the upcoming Vita games such as Persona 4 The Golden, teased the game that ended up being Soul Sacrifice and also revealed the release date for Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.

Fingers crossed that they will be showing off some of the next generation of games for the underrated PS Vita. Because boy, it needs them.

The broadcast is set for June but no specific date has been announced as yet. Stay tuned.

It’s directed by Icíar Bollaín, written by Paul Laverty and stars Luis Tosar, Gael García Bernal, Juan Carlos Aduviri and Karra Elejalde. Below the clip, I’ve also placed the trailer which gives you more of an idea of the story of the movie and the look and feel. I actually got to spend a month just outside Cochabamba in Bolivia (where the movie is shot) back in 2002 while working at an orphanage so am very much looking forward to watching the movie to see this beautiful country captured on film (other than seeing it on the Top Gear special!).

Obsessive idealist Sebastián has sworn to direct a film about one of the world’s most iconic figures, Christopher Columbus. He is determined to overturn the myth of the arrival of Western Civilization in the Americas as a force for good. His film will show what Columbus set in motion: the obsession with gold, the taking of slaves, and the terrible violence visited on those Indians who fought back.

The brilliant actor playing Columbus constantly challenges the director, accusing him of hypocrisy and cheap manipulation. Costa, Sebastián’s friend and producer, doesn’t give a damn. All that matters is that the film comes in on time and within budget. Costa decided they will shoot in Bolivia, the cheapest, most “Indian” of Latin American countries.

While the shoot progresses in and around the city of Cochabamba, civil and political unrest simmer, as the entire water supply of the city is privatized and sold to a British/American multinational. Violence increases daily until the entire city explodes in the now infamous Bolivian Water War – a war which actually took place in April 2000. 500 years after Columbus, sticks and stones once again confront the high-tech weaponry of a modern army. David against Goliath. Only this time the fight is not over gold, but the simplest of life-giving elements – water.

This is not the first time Rockstar embed information on other games inside, um, other games. The same happened for Red Dead Redemption and Bully.

This is by no means concrete evidence, but given the past habits of Rockstar, this could very well be, at least some of the transportation devices we’ll be ripping up San Andreas in. Below is the list. Below that is the code. At least I think it is

Burns.

I visited Fox a month before the film was due for its worldwide release and though a number of visually impressive teasers had been glimpsed there was an understandable tension in the air. Fox chairman Tom Rothman was very keen to play up their new film and openly admitted that it was a chalice, while not poisoned, which was tarnished with Tim Burton’s lifeless reboot. I asked him if a sequel was already in the works to which he replied along the lines of ‘if the numbers add up’.

Now we all know that the numbers added up just fine and a second prequel/sequel to a prequel is on its way with man behind the mo-cap, Andy Serkis, and the man behind the camera, director Rupert Wyatt, both set to return to the newly diseased world. The news today from THR that Burns is lining up to write the sequel is not as unexpected as it might seem. Burns was at one point set to follow up his work with Steven Soderbergh on Contagion by directing a film called The Side Effects, now renamed The Bitter Pill, which he also wrote. With Soderbergh taking the reins on that film Burns’ schedule opened up and he’s filled it with this.

The co-writers of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, were working on the follow up and delivered a draft. There’s no word on how much work Burns will have to do on this script, however if you were to line up the characterisation of ROTPOTA and Contagion, as an example, there’s a clear difference in the tone and solidity present in each film. If you want to find out more about Jaffa and Silver’s journey to get Fox to take on another Apes film you should listen to Jeff Goldsmith’s Q&A podcast with the pair.

Naughty Dog have gone live with a brand new trailer for their virus-em-up zombie infected game The Last of Us. The trailer shows that just driving through the devastated city is not as easy as it sounds. It looks beautiful, for a CGI scene. Alas there is still no in-game footage on show. That will be at E3. If this ambush is part of the game, I imagine it would play out like a one of those awesome set pieces you find in Uncharted, or possible a QTE. Check it out below.

Jay and Mark Duplass have been riding high upon the waves from the praise of their last few films, with Baghead, Cyrus, and most recently Jeff, Who Lives At Home brilliantly received by critics and audiences alike.

The brothers have carved out a great niche in the indie market, and now the first trailer for their next film, The Do-Deca-Pentathlon, has debuted over at Apple.

“From Jay and Mark Duplass, the writer/directors of the Sundance hits “The Puffy Chair,” “Cyrus” and the upcoming “Jeff Who Lives at Home” comes “The Do-Deca-Pentathlon,” the story of two grown brothers who secretly compete in a homemade Olympics during a family reunion. When their fierce and disruptive competition is uncovered, the brothers must choose between their passion for beating the hell out of each other and the greater good of the family.”

The film got terrific reviews coming out of SXSW earlier this year, and is set for a US release this summer.

Co-written and -directed by the Duplass brothers, the film stars Mark Kelly and Steve Zissis as the competitive brothers, and this first look at the film definitely makes a good impression.

Mark Duplass also stars in one of the summer’s most anticipated comedies, Safety Not Guaranteed, and if you’re yet to see anything from that film, you can catch up on all the awesome things we’ve seen from that right here. Enjoy.

The Do-Deca-Pentathlon will be released in the US on 6th July, and if you’d like to watch this first trailer in HD, you can head over to Apple here. No word yet on when we can expect here in the UK, but for the time being, you can catch the Duplass brothers’ latest film, Jeff, Who Lives At Home, starring Jason Segel and Ed Helms, in a cinema near you right now.
