Alex goes into detail about the grueling writing process, who was involved and what ideas were bandied around in the scrum, and it’s great to hear throughout that Litvak and Rodriguez were always aware of how the fans would react.

He also talks about how this new film fits in with the turbulent journey of Predators on the screen, going so far to suggest that the team were hoping this film will ‘atone for Aliens Vs. Predator’.

If you’ve seen the trailer (and if not – here it is) you’ll be able to see the links forged between Antal and Rodriguez’s vision and the 1987 original.

You can check out the rest of Alex’s videos over at Sixthborough Screenwriting here, and the one in question is embedded below.

Dave and I are joined once again by /Film’s Brendon Connelly as we dissect Matthew Vaughn’s colourful vision of ultraviolence which hits UK cinemas next week. We chat through the wave of expectation for this film, our thoughts on the cast and mull over the firestorm of criticism which will inevitably meet this film head on.

As a special bonus we also introduce a new section to Mouth Off, one in which the three of us choose a film we love but which may have passed the rest of the world by. You can find our discussion at the end of the episode and enjoy the trailers for our picks below.

You can listen in your browser below, or click here to subscribe to the MouthOff feed in iTunes, where you can also find our older episodes.

I hope you enjoy it, do let us know what you want to hear, or if you agree or disagree with us – leave your comments here, or email us on MouthOff@heyuguys.co.uk

The reason why this is a little late is because well 1. Didn’t have enough time to see it when it was released and 2. I was sceptical about the horror elements of the trailer.

However, this week i made time to check out this creepy but intriguing looking psychological thriller and if you want to know what i thought, check out my video review embedded below.

Troll 2 is a film that I probably saw far too many times whilst at university. It is a terrible film but because of this it is incredibly funny in totally unintentional ways. I had a blast watching it with friends and it’s awful dialogue is very quotable.

I’m not alone in having this kind of experience of Troll 2 as the new documentary Best Worst Movie highlights. In it Michael Stephenson, Joshua in Troll 2, investigates the cult status of this film and tracks down the cast and crew who worked on it.

The film has just been picked up for a limited release in the US so hopefully a UK theatrical release or at least a DVD release shouldn’t be too far away.

The official description of the film is as follows

In 1989, unwitting Utah actors starred in the undisputed worst movie in history: TROLL 2. Two decades later, the legendarily inept film’s child star unravels the improbable, heartfelt story of an Alabama dentist-turned-cult movie icon and an Italian filmmaker who come to terms with this genuine, internationally revered cinematic failure.

Check out the trailer below and let us know your thoughts and in particular let us know if you too have experienced the best worst movie, Troll 2.

For weeks now there’s been speculation over who may take the lead role in Marvel’s Captain America movie.

I’ve come to realise that any rumour that THR get to hear seems to become fact a day or so after they announce it. Their latest news is that Chris Evans (no, not the host of BBC Radio 2), the one who has previous appeared in Sunshine, Street Kings, 2 Fantastic Found movies and The Losers.

Although Marvel haven’t confirmed this news as yet, I expect if the rumour is true, it wont be too long before an announcement is made.

The website goes onto say: Evans’ offer would include starring in up to three “America” movies plus “The Avengers” movies and appearances in several other Marvel movies. While an offer to star in “America” may seem like something you don’t have to mull over too long, one possible complication is that Evans is committed to co-starring in the Anna Faris romantic comedy “What’s Your Number?” Both are scheduled to shoot this summer.

As soon as Marvel confirm or this ends up in the rumour bin, we’ll let you know! Head over to THR for the full report.

The trailer appears to pretty much give away the whole film but this looks like a pretty by-the-numbers romantic comedy so if you know the premise you can probably take a good guess at where the plot goes anyway. I can’t see much in the trailer that suggests that this is going to be anything particularly interesting or funny. What do you think?

The official synopsis is as follows

JENNIFER ANISTON stars alongside JASON BATEMAN in this offbeat comedy as Kassie, a smart, fun-loving single woman who, despite her neurotic best friend Wally’s (BATEMAN) objections, decides it’s time to have a baby—even if it means doing it by herself … with a little help from a charming sperm donor (PATRICK WILSON). But, unbeknownst to her, Kassie’s plans go awry because of a last-minute switch that isn’t discovered until seven years later when Wally finally gets acquainted with Kassie’s cute— though slightly neurotic—son.

The US release date is set for 20th August 2010 with no UK release date scheduled yet.

So, to whet your appetite one more time we’re pleased to give you a look at the final trailer for this fantastic film.

Our review of the film is here, and you can read all of our coverage here, suffice to say that if you’ve caught any of the trailers, or seen any footage then you’ll have a pretty good idea of what’s in store.

The film is out next week here in the UK, and we’ll be at the World Premiere next week to catch the excitement building around this film. If you’ve seen the film, or even if this is the first time you’ve seen Kick-Ass in motion, tell us what you think.

Treehouses, amulets, clues and mysteries, all revolving around the titular Monster Squad and their fight against the very real Hollywood Monsters they idolise.

As a kid in the 80s this was a seminal film, crossing the streams of The Goonies and Ghostbusters, and introducing us to the myriad movie monsters of the past, it was a fantasy come to life, and the 1987 film, directed by Night of the Creeps scribe Fred Dekker (who co-wrote this with Shane Black) is next against the remake wall.

Professional franchise resurrectioners Platinum Dunes are the ones holding the rifles and with the first call of ‘Ready!’ already sounding out, can the worrying shouts of ‘Aim’ and ‘Fire’ be far behind?

Deadline report that the Production company are looking for the right people to bring this one back to the screen right now, but also that producer of the original, Rob Cohen, is eyeing the spot behind the camera.

While Cohen’s connection with the original seems like a good move, but there is no more news on what the thinking behind the remake is. Will it be a rehash of the old idea updated to include mobile phones and Facebook, or is there something else up Cohen’s sleeve?

The film does have its fans, and nostalgia freaks will eat this one up, but barring the inevitable 3D-o-vision is there any reason to pull the corpse of this one out of the ground?

You can read Craig’s review which went up over last weekend here and view our vast Kick-Ass coverage here. Kick-Ass is released in cinemas, 26th March and we highly recommend you go and see it! If you haven’t already seen a Kick-Ass trailer, you can check it out here – http://www.youtube.com/kickass

One of the things that stood out in the movie (one of the many!) was the soundtrack, and we have some good news! We’ve managed to procure 5 copies of the Official Soundtrack for you lucky readers of HeyUGuys.

Synopsis: A twisted, funny, high octane adventure, Matthew Vaughn brings KICK ASS to the big screen. KICK ASS tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), who decides to take his obsession with comic books as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name — Kick Ass – assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem – Kick Ass has absolutely no superpowers. His life is forever changed as he inspires a sub-culture of copy cats, meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes — an eleven year old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz), and her father Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) — and forges a friendship with another fledging superhero, Red Mist (Chris Mintz-Plasse). But thanks to the scheming of a local mob boss Frank D’Amico (Mark Strong), that new alliance will be put to the test.

To be in with a chance of winning the soundtrack, all you have to do is answer the question below using the form:

In which movie did Matthew Vaughn direct the current James Bond?

The small print:

British man of the moment, Aaron Johnson has teamed together with British Woman of the moment, Carey Mulligan to create a film called The Greatest, directed by Shana Feste.

The movies also stars Pierce Brosnan, Susan Sarandon and Johnny Simmons who play Aaron Johnson’s family. The movies tells the story of a pregnant Carey Mulligan who’s boyfriend (Aaron Johnson) is killed in a car crash. When she speaks to his family and explains she has no where else to go, and give them the news that she’s pregnant, they take her in against the wishes of Sarandon.

I’ve put the official synopsis below which will explain the movie much better than I can! Carey Mulligan is going from strength to strength at the moment. Although Wall Street 2 has been delayed, I can;t wait to see it. Mulligan plays Gordan Gekko’s daughter and I think she’ll be great!

Synopsis: The Greatest tells the story of Allen and Grace Brewer, a grief-stricken couple whose family has been pushed to the breaking point by the death of their older son, Bennett, in a car crash. When a young woman, Rose, shows up a few months later announcing that she is pregnant with Bennett’s child, the Brewer’s are forced to take her in. At first, Rose’s presence threatens to tear the family even further apart but, eventually, her interaction with each of the Brewers proves to be the very thing that brings them back together.

The first Final Destination film was a real surprise, and I remember leaving the cinema with my friends and looking around for falling pylons and out of control shopping trolleys loading with pick-axes and sharp gardening tools hurtling towards us – the drive home from the cinema was spent in a state of heightened anxiety; we were watching every plane in the sky.

The second film had one of the most intense car crash scenes and while the inventiveness of the death sequences waned slightly the premise of cheating Death, only to have Death come looking for you, was a good one. The third film started well but devolved into a messy, irony-free gore fest with little to recommend another trip down evisceration lane.

And the fourth film, made possible by the thrust of 3D, added very little despite the return of Final Destination 2’s writer and director and it seemed that all was done. Not so.

ComingSoon have the news this morning that the franchise will keep on running, perhaps buoyed by the success, financial if not critical, of horror series like Saw, as Warner Bros’ Alan Horn told the ShoWest assembled that another film was in the works.

No other news, not even a title reveal of ‘The Finaller Destination’ or some such nonsense, but I will always have a tiny soft spot for this series, and hope they’ll rekindle the fun and nastiness of the original, now ten years old.

Adrien Brody stars with Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Danny Trejo (who will hopefully dispatch one of the aliens with a Machete or two), Oleg Taktarov, Louiz Ozaw, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, and though a few names may not instantly jump out as action hero material this trailer puts all those fears to rest.

It’s an effectively shot trailer, giving just the right hint of Predator without spoiling it by revealing all of the film’s secrets. Those familiar with the Predator mythology will have a few chills as the screenshot above evidence, and while I’ll miss Jesse Ventura and maybe Arnie too, this film is looking better than ever.

If you are familiar with Solondz’s films then you will expect a certain type of sick and twisted humour and savage attack on Modern America and Life During Wartime does not disappoint.

Although the film is essentially a sequel to Happiness, Solondz takes liberties with the character’s stories and replaces all the actors. The cast is quite incredible with fantastic performances by Allison Janney, Shirley Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, Ciaran Hinds, Ally Sheedy and an incredible turn by Paul Reubens.

Life During Wartime has just been picked up by IFC Films for a US release and will hopefully find a UK distributor soon too. Check out the trailer embedded below.

Jason Statham of course, and let’s get the guy who gave us Tomb Raider and Con Air to pull the strings. Throw in a smattering of sex, guns and rock and roll, we want bullets and car chases, intimidating one liners delivered in gravelly monotone, let’s have an explosion or two and we’re done.

Here’s the trailer for the Simon West directed hitman with a vengeance thriller, and finding out that Stringfellow Hawk himself, Jan-Michael Vincent, starred in the 1972 original I’m hoping for a cameo (in a helicopter or not).

The same question can be asked of sequels. I know people who saw The Dark Knight without having watched Batman Begins. I come from the school of No-Sequel-Without-Watching-The-Original-First. I will not go into a sequel without being familiar with the source material. I don’t see the point. I suppose with some films it’s possible, but I want to know the whole story. Which brings me to the point of this post. If the preview to a sequel of a film that I haven’t seen, catches my interest, I will watch the original. Even if it’s been 28 years since the original came out.

I recently just watched a film that came out in 1982 for the first time. It was one of those that just got past me. I’m ashamed to admit it, but that film was Tron. I know, I know….believe me I know. I played the arcade game like crazy when I was a kid. I played that more than any other arcade game out there. But for some reason, I just never saw the film.

Since last July’s Comic Con, we’ve seen more and more about the sequel, Tron: Legacy. I watched the blogs as the viral campaigns unfolded, got a look at the new light cycle, saw the pictures from Flynn’s Arcade as well as various other goodies. But what struck me the most was when the actual trailer was released just recently. I watched the trailer and marveled at just how awesome it looked. I knew then, that I really just didn’t need to see Tron, but I NEEDED to see Tron.

This past Sunday morning I sat down with my coffee and fired up the DVR. When my roommate saw what I was watching, I had to explain that I had never seen it. The look of sheer horror that was on his face really said it all. With a hand up all I could muster was a stern “I know!” and I continued on. Everything about the film just reeked of 80’s. The music, the visual effects, the dialogue….but it was all so…..good! I loved it. I loved every minute of it. Strangely it holds up even if you can see it’s age. Tron was right up my alley, so I was even more disgusted that I hadn’t discovered it sooner. That is a movie that I would have loved to have grown up with. But I have now discovered it and am all ready and eager for the sequel. The greatest thing is, I had a 12 year old hit the couch about halfway through it and she was glued to it just as much as I was. After it ended, she looked at me all bright eyed and said “That was really good!” I know that she’ll be going with me to see Tron: Legacy.

It’s been 28 years since Tron was released. But really, it’s never to late to watch a classic. Not only did I finally discover it, but so did a 12 year old girl. Some people may think that almost three decades is a little long to go between films, but by the looks of Tron: Legacy, it’s not only worth the wait, it’s really only going to work in Tron’s favor.

Jonah Hill has been a busy boy with his animations recently after appearing in the Dreamworks movie, How to Train Your Dragon (out 31st March) and Megamind too comes from the studio who brought us Shrek. If this movie is as good as both those 2 previous, then we’re in for a treat!

This new trailer comes to us from Empire or you can see the HD version on Yahoo.

Synopsis: Megamind is the most brilliant supervillain the world has ever known. And the least successful. Over the years, he has tried to conquer Metro City in every imaginable way. Each attempt, a colossal failure thanks to the caped superhero known as ‘Metro Man,’ an invincible hero until the day Megamind actually kills him in the throes of one of his botched evil plans. Suddenly, Megamind has no purpose. A supervillain without a superhero. He realizes that achieving his life’s ambition is the worst thing that ever happened to him. Megamind decides that the only way out of his rut is to create a new hero opponent called ‘Titan,’ who promises to be bigger, better and stronger than Metro Man ever was. Pretty quickly Titan starts to think it’s much more fun to be a villain than a good guy. Except Titan doesn’t just want to rule the world, he wants to destroy it. Now, Megamind must decide: can he defeat his own diabolical creation? Can the world’s smartest man make the smart decision for once? Can the evil genius become the unlikely hero of his own story?

In October last year I sat in a cinema at the London Film Festival for approximately two hours and forty minutes watching Gaspar Noe’s follow up to Irreversible, Enter The Void, and in that time I felt exhilarated, bored, nauseous, repulsed, shocked, scared and amused. The film ended and Gaspar Noe walked out for a Q&A and proceeded to explain that he wanted to make a kind of death trip movie and something that you’d never seen before. Despite some minor criticisms I had of the film, I can’t deny that he succeeded in this. Enter The Void is an incredible film, not always a good film, but consistently incredible.

Inspired by the 1947 MGM film Lady in the Lake, 2001: A Space Odyssey and an intense mushroom trip he experienced, Noe has blended these influences with his own fearless filmmaking style and the result is Enter The Void.

The Plot synopsis from IFC Films (who have picked the film up for a US release) is as follows

Loosely inspired by the TIBETAN BOOK OF THE DEAD, ENTER THE VOID centers on Oscar and his sister Linda, recent arrivals in Tokyo. Oscar is a small time drug dealer, and Linda works as a nightclub stripper. One night, Oscar is caught up in a police bust and shot. As he lies dying, his spirit, faithful to the promise he made his sister – that he would never abandon her – refuses to abandon the world of the living. His spirit wanders through the city, his visions growing evermore distorted, evermore nightmarish. Past, present and future merge in a hallucinatory maelstrom.

Although I am sure Enter The Void will not receive a particularly wide release, it still has no UK release date, I urge you to check the film out in a cinema if you get the chance when it’s released. The film benefits greatly from being seen at the cinema and it is a really unique experience.

Check out the Japanese trailer below which is definitely NSFW.

Also embedded below the trailer are the fantastic opening titles for the film, which recently won the Special Jury Award for Excellence in Title Design at SXSW.

Both videos feature music from the score by Thomas Bangalter. Bangalter is one half of Daft Punk, who are also scoring Disney’s upcoming Tron Legacy
