The early reviews have only heightened the anticipation, coming away from Sundance with two awards to its name, and the film has more recently been shown at Cannes to continuing positive buzz.

Following the first clip this week from what promises to be one of the year’s most powerful movies, IFC have debuted the first trailer, giving us a terrific full look at the film.

Bob Muldoon (Casey Affleck) and Ruth Guthrie (Rooney Mara), an impassioned young outlaw couple on an extended crime spree, are finally apprehended by lawmen after a shootout in the Texas hills. Although Ruth wounds a local officer, Bob takes the blame. But four years later, Bob escapes from prison and sets out to find Ruth and their daughter, born during his incarceration.

Set against the backdrop of 1970′s Texas Hill Country, director David Lowery paints a poetic picture, evoking the mythology of westerns and saturating the dramatic space with an aching sense of loss. Featuring powerful performances by Affleck, Mara as well as Ben Foster and Keith Carradine, AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS is a story of love, motherhood, and searching for peace while faced with an unrelenting past.

Casey Affleck, Rooney Mara, and Ben Foster star as the leading trio in an impressive cast, with Nate Parker and Keith Carradine starring alongside them.

David Lowery directs here from his own script, with Cassian Elwes (Blue Valentine), Toby Halbrooks (Upstream Color), Amy Kaufman (Y Tu Mamá También), James M. Johnston, and Jay Van Hoy (Beginners) producing.

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints will be released in the US on August 16th, and is definitely a must-see movie of the summer. Still no word yet on a UK release date, unfortunately, but I’m hoping that that will soon be changing, especially with all the positive buzz coming out of Sundance and its Cannes special screening.

Todd Phillips is back behind the camera for the comedy sequel, and with the film heading into theatres on both sides of the Atlantic yesterday, Warner Bros. have released four great new TV spots to encourage you into a cinema seat this weekend.

The Hangover Part III is the third and final film in director Todd Phillips’ record-shattering comedy franchise. This time, there’s no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off.

Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis are of course back as the leading trio once more. And they’re joined by a brilliant ensemble, led by Ken Jeong, John Goodman, Justin Bartha, Heather Graham, Jamie Chung, Jeffrey Tambor, Sasha Barrese, Gillian Vigman, and Mike Epps.

Phillips is directing from a script he co-wrote with Craig Mazin (The Hangover Part II). And judging by all we’ve seen so far, this is definitely a sequel you won’t want to miss if you’re a fan of the original films.

The Hangover Part III is now playing in the UK and US as of yesterday. In the States, this weekend sees it opening opposite Fast and Furious 6, and whilst it’s had a one-day head start, I have a feeling that Universal and Justin Lin’s blockbuster sequel will be topping the weekend by the end.

The premiere of Arrested Development’s long-awaited fourth season is fast approaching, and we couldn’t be more excited. Yesterday we ran through our favourite supporting characters from the show, and now here’s a rundown of what we believe to be the 10 best episodes the series has offered so far.

It wasn’t an easy task narrowing them down to a top ten, so we compiled the list scientifically. We watched every episode back again and gauged the amount of belly laughs that occurred during the viewing of each. You can’t argue with science! Well, you can, and if you think we’ve got our science wrong then let us know in the comments section.

Click ‘Next’ below to find out which episodes made our top ten…

Noah Baumbach’s While We’re Young has been in development for a good few years now, with Ben Stiller, James Franco, Greta Gerwig, and Cate Blanchett first boarding the project back in 2010. And it looks like things have been coming together very nicely in recent weeks.

The film has undergone a number of changes to the cast over the years, with Naomi Watts and Adam Driver most recently signing on for the roles previously set for Franco and Blanchett. And now The Wrap reports that Amanda Seyfried (Les Misérables) is in final talks to join the cast in the role previously set for Gerwig.

Stiller and Watts star as a married couple that strikes up an unlikely friendship with a younger free-spirited couple, played by Driver and Seyfried, the latter of whom makes homemade ice cream.

Seyfried came through as a potential candidate a few weeks ago, and is thought to have made room in her shooting schedule this autumn/fall for Baumbach’s latest feature.

Baumbach will be directing from his own script, with past collaborators Scott Rudin (Greenberg, Fantastic Mr. Fox) and Eli Bush (Frances Ha) producing.

Baumbach’s most recent film, Frances Ha, is currently playing in cinemas in the US, and is set to be released in the UK on 26th July. And after seeing the film at TIFF last year, I can’t recommend it enough. Understandably, I’m really looking forward to everything he does next, and While We’re Young is definitely something to get excited about.

Seyfried was of course a major part of the Oscar-winning Les Misérables as Cosette, and has headed into theatres this weekend as the young female lead in Blue Sky Studios’ Epic, lending her voice as M.K.

She’s currently filming Seth MacFarlane’s sophomore feature, A Million Ways to Die in the West, and has recently boarded Craig Zobel’s follow-up to the acclaimed Compliance, Z for Zachariah, which co-stars Chris Pine and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

If Seyfried has indeed cleared her schedule for the autumn/fall, then talks are clearly headed in the right direction for While We’re Young, and I can’t wait to see her starring alongside Stiller, Watts, and Driver. Baumbach has assembled a terrific ensemble for the film, and here’s to hoping that it will be heading into theatres next summer, possibly following a debut at Cannes.

Chandor’s All Is Lost has had its debut out in Cannes, and the early reviews are very promising.

The film is screening Out of Competition at the festival, so it of course won’t be winning Chandor or leading man Robert Redford any awards. But if the early buzz is to be believed, the film could well be a strong contender come Oscar time, and is positioned for an awards campaign with an October US release date already set.

Fresh from its debut out in France, the first clip has washed up online, giving us a look at the dialogue-less film.

Deep into a solo voyage in the Indian Ocean, an unnamed man wakes to find his 39-foot yacht taking on water after a collision with a shipping container left floating on the high seas. With his navigation equipment and radio disabled, the man sails unknowingly into the path of a violent storm. Despite his success in patching the breached hull, his mariner’s intuition and a strength that belies his age, the man barely survives the tempest.

Using only a sextant and nautical maps to chart his progress, he is forced to rely on ocean currents to carry him into a shipping lane in hopes of hailing a passing vessel. But with the sun unrelenting, sharks circling and his meagre supplies dwindling, the ever-resourceful sailor soon finds himself staring his mortality in the face.

Redford is the sole star of the film, and without a word of dialogue in the movie, it will be interesting to see how audiences beyond critics receive it later in the year.

Chandor is coming off the back of his Oscar-nominated debut as writer-director of the terrific Margin Call, and this promises to be a fascinating change of pace for his sophomore feature.

All Is Lost is set to be released in the US on October 25th. No word yet on a UK release date, but here’s to hoping we’ll be seeing it before the year’s end too, in plenty of time for the Oscars.

Here’s a movie that we’ve been very much looking forward to ever since it we spoke to Emilia Clark for the Game of Thrones Season 1 DVD release a year ago! Spike Island is directed by Mat Whitecross with a screenplay from Chris Coghill and stars Elliott Tittensor, Nico Mirallegro, Jordan Murphy, Adam Long and Emilia Clarke. The movie focuses on a group of 5 friends who all decide that no matter that they’re going to attend a Stone Roses gig.

We attended the premiere at the London Film Festival late last year and if you missed, them, you can catch out interviews with the cast and filmmakers here. The film gets it’s UK release June 21st and we’ll have a review of it on the site as soon as possible. A trailer will be dropping for the movie later today so keep your eyes peeled for that. Without further ado, scroll down for the first poster for the movie.

School is nearly out for summer (and forever) for our lads – five Stone Roses fans from Manchester. Nothing will stop our boys from seeing their heroes on stage. This is the story of their journey to Widnes and the 72 hours across which their friendships are tested and their future is shaped – together or apart.

Directed by Daniel Noah, only his second feature since his debut in 2001, Max Rose premiered at the Cannes Film Festival with dozens of photographers, multiple video cameras and hundreds of highly excitable guests in attendance. Why so much fanfare and a circus like atmosphere for such a relatively small screening? It’s all because of one man, Jerry Lewis.

Max Rose is Lewis’ first starring role in decades and it is perhaps no surprise that the Cannes Film Festival was chosen as the platform for his return after a long absence. Lewis has been far more popular in France for many years than he has in America and French critics have long championed his work, taking him far more seriously as an artist than he generally was in his home country. Lewis was therefore greeted at the festival with cheers of “Jerry!”, applause and enough flash bulbs to blind the 87 year-old actor. His response, after standing for photos for around ten seconds, was simply “Where’s my seat?” and when asked by festival director Thierry Fremaux if there was anything he wanted to say about they film he replied (shouting) “No! I got here at 10 after 1, you putz!” If only Lewis was as animated on screen in Max Rose.

As the titular Max Rose Lewis is reasonably adequate, playing the thinly written character with a hint of melancholy and a lot of curmudgeonly behaviour but the fact that this is his first significant role in some time seems to be something that Noah is unable to ignore. The camera seemed to be placed on set by Noah purely to film Lewis, with other characters often fading into the background, their lack of importance to the narrative only highlighted by Noah’s reverence to Lewis. In addition, closing credits made up of archive footage of Jerry Lewis make the whole affair feel more like a memorial than a film.

In the film the recently widowed Max Rose discovers that his wife had been hiding something from him for over fifty years and with a mixture of grief and anger overwhelming him Max decides that he must discover what happened between her and a man named Ben. If Max was a compellingly written character this hunt might be of some interest, although the search mostly involves him frantically looking through pictures whilst an apparition of his wife talks to him, but there’s almost nothing in the writing to encourage an audience to engage with Max or the film in general.

Add to this some truly awful dialogue, which generally attempts to spell out the already sparse plot, all of which so poorly delivered that one wonders if they only shot one take, and it’s hard to see how anyone involved considered this effort good enough to release. The production design and cinematography also come up sorely lacking, with a flat and lifeless look to the film only adding to the overall dullness.

A disastrous return to the screen for Lewis, although the blame does not seem to really lay at his feet, but one which received a lengthy standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. Despite the fact that a number of those clapping had quite obviously dozed off during the film.

He’ll kick things off this summer with the anticipated The Conjuring, and will be back in the autumn/fall with Insidious: Chapter 2.

The latest trailer for the former hit early last month, giving us a terrific new look at the upcoming horror/thriller, which Wan has said was given an R rating in the US for simply being too scary. And naturally, our interest is piqued.

With its July release date fast approaching, Warner Bros. have debuted a great new poster, featuring a rather creepy little doll.

Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, “The Conjuring” tells the horrifying tale of how world renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star as the leading couple, Ed and Lorraine Warren. And starring alongside them will be Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Joey King, and Mackenzie Foy.

Wan (Saw, Insidious) is behind the camera, directing from a script co-written by Chad and Carey Hayes (House of Wax, The Reaping).

The Conjuring will be released in the US on July 19th, and has had its UK release date set back a little to 2nd August.

It’s been a little while since we were asked to do a tech review of something but when Samsung offered us the chance to have a play with their new Solid State drives, we jumped at the chance. Solid State hard drives (SSD) have been around for a little while now but have always come with a hefty price-tag. More recently, process have been coming down swiftly and it’s the perfect time to start thinking about upgrading your current equipment to this new technology.

Solid State drives have huge advantage over traditional mechanical hard drives which doesn’t just end at speed. There are no moving parts in a solid state drive which means it doesn’t need to spin up to access the data and can therefore be delivered more quickly. Furthermore, since there are no moving parts, if you were to drop your laptop, it’s less likely to break than its predecessor.

To show just how easy it is to convert your old drive to the new, Samsung sent over a cable and a new hard drive (a Samsung SSD 840 Pro Series 512gb drive) for me to switch out my old drive and move to the new. I’ve filmed how I got on in the video below. I have to admit it’s not the most thrilling video we’ve ever made but it shows just how simple it is to get things moved over. The slowest part of the process is copying data but there’s no need to sit and watch it. The most involved thing is switching out the drive but that is a very simple process if you have a screwdriver!

It’s one we’ve been waiting for for a while now, and Monsters University has definitely been shaping up nicely in the past year or so.

The studio recently announced that they will continue their tradition of opening their latest animated hit in the UK at the Edinburgh International Film Festival as the Family Gala, where it is sure to go down a treat amongst festivalgoers. And with just under a month to go before its release on the other side of the Atlantic, the first clip has debuted over at Yahoo Movies, giving us a great little look at the banter we can expect between future best friends, Mike and Sulley.

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. “Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

Screaming with laughter and fun, “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”) and produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”).

John Goodman and Billy Crystal are back as the leading duo. And they’re joined by a great voice cast, led by Steve Buscemi, Joel Murray, Sean Hayes, Dave Foley, Peter Sohn, Nathan Fillion, Aubrey Plaza, John Krasinski, Charlie Day, Kelsey Grammar, Frank Oz, Tyler Labine, Bonnie Hunt, Ken Jeong, Rob Riggle, Ricky Gervais, J.B. Smoove, Helen Mirren, and John Ratzenberger.

Dan Scanlon (Tracy, Mater and the Ghostlight) is behind the camera for the prequel, directing from a script co-written by Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc.) and Andrew Stanton (Toy Story 3, Finding Nemo).

Monsters University will be released in 3D on June 21st in the US, following shortly after in the UK on 12th July. Whilst we count down the weeks, here’s the great first clip to help you take a trip down memory lane. Enjoy.

Now the story of a wealthy family who lost everything, and the guest stars who had no choice but to meet the Bluths together. It’s the ten best supporting characters from Arrested Development!

Unless you’ve been living inside the wall of a model home for the last year, you’ll know that Arrested Development is returning this weekend with a new 15-episode season on Netflix. If, like us, you can’t wait to meet back up with the Bluths again, then hopefully this catch-up with some of the series’ best supporting characters from the previous three seasons will help the last few days pass a little easier. It’s been extremely tough narrowing them down to just our favourite ten, so if we’ve left out your favourite be sure to keep your protestations clean in the comments section!

Ron Howard’s Rush has long been one of our most anticipated films of the year. The film, a Formula 1 biographical drama centred on the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda, will be released in theatres this September, and I have a feeling it’s going to be a strong contender come Oscar season.

Viewers of the Bahrain Grand Prix were treated to a new trailer for Howard’s upcoming sporting drama, and now the great new trailer has debuted online.

The epic action-drama stars Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) as the charismatic Englishman James Hunt and Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds) as the disciplined Austrian perfectionist Niki Lauda, whose clashes on the Grand Prix racetrack epitomized the contrast between these two extraordinary characters, a distinction reflected in their private lives.

Set against the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, Rush portrays the exhilarating true story of two of the greatest rivals the world has ever witnessed—handsome English playboy Hunt and his methodical, brilliant opponent, Lauda. Taking us into their personal lives on and off the track, Rush follows the two drivers as they push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there is no shortcut to victory and no margin for error. If you make one mistake, you die.

Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl take the leading roles as James Hunt and Niki Lauda, respectively. And starring alongside them is a fine cast, led by Olivia Wilde, Alexandra Maria Lara, and Natalie Dormer.

Howard is reuniting once more with the great Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon), who penned the script, and this should definitely be considered a must-see film of the year.

Rush will be released in the UK on 13th September, with its US release date following a week later on September 20th. I can’t wait. Here’s the new trailer to show you why.

In the interview, James asks Todd about what it was about the story that they wanted to bring to the screen and how it would move on from the previous two films. This film is much more of a heist movie and James asks more about that, how Alan (Zach Galifianakis’ character) integrates in and what he’s ultimately looking for.

James also asks about new cast-members John Goodman and Melissa McCarthy, how they fit into the story and also into the ensemble cast as a whole. Finally we get to hear from Todd about his films sitting within a group of films made famous by the city of Las Vegas and more specifically returning to the city that was a character in the first film and his choice of music used in the trilogy.

We’ll have our own interviews with Heather Graham, Ken Jeong, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Justin Bartha coming up tomorrow so make sure you come back for those. The Hangover 3 is released in UK cinemas today.

Starring Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz (in another Oscar winning role), and Leonardo Di Caprio, Django is the second of Tarantino’s Rewritten History trilogy after the World War II film Inglorious Basterds.

Once again Tarantino is on top form, the film has won many awards and was critically and commercial hailed as one of the best films of last year. To celebrate the release of Django Unchained on blinkbox the online movie and TV streaming service has created the following infographic detailing the facts and figures about the film, the director and his work.

All of Tarantino’s films are well worth your time, including (some would say especially Jackie Brown which is an underrated classic) but if you want to start right now blinkbox has the latest movies to watch instantly the same day as DVD, without subscription. Watch Django Unchained online and in the meantime enjoy the infographic.

We recently heard that the film is set to revolve around some new research being done by particle physicists at Columbia University. Whilst speaking to Digital Spy, along with discussing his involvement in the vodka business, Aykroyd has further teased a few more plot details, and discusses his wish to have sections of the film in 3D.

In terms of the overall direction of the project, he encourages us to “think Star Trek,” another franchise so impressively rebooted in recent years by the ever-brilliant J.J. Abrams.

“We’re going to concentrate on the new,” he said. “I can’t drive that Cadillac, my character Ray Stantz: one eye is out, I’ve got a hip that’s gone, a knee, I can’t lift the Proton pack anymore. We need new blood to take over… we need four to five to six new Ghostbusters.”

And speaking about wanting to make some of the film in 3D,

“I don’t think it’ll be exclusively 3D because it can work without it. When you’ve got all the stream and the hardware we’re building, wow!

“With regards to 3D – the new stuff will totally lend itself to 3D. Picture slime coming out and splashing people in the audience. That’s where we’re heading and it’s going to be very visual and exciting in all its forms.”

It sounds like the script is still in the development stages, with Aykroyd not settling on a number in the interview below for how many new recruits will be joining the team. So if you were expecting shooting to get underway soon, I think we might still be a little way away from that. But the project is clearly still alive and well, and given how far graphics and special effects have come since Ghostbusters II back in 1989, you can’t help but think that Ghostbusters 3(D) is bound to be very visually impressive.

Justin Lin’s Fast and Furious 6 became the highest-grossing opening weekend for Universal here in the UK last weekend, and now it’s just one day away from landing in US cinemas, where it’s naturally expected to open to big numbers.

With the film already in cinemas on our shores, a great new 60-second UK TV spot has been released, teasing some of the brilliant action you can expect from what promises to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.

Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.
Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker return to take the lead for the sixth instalment. And they’re joined by another awesome cast, led by Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Dwayne Johnson, Luke Evans, Joe Taslim, Tyrese Gibson, Gina Carano, Gal Gadot, Elsa Pataky, and the brilliant Sung Kang.

Lin is behind the camera once more, directing from a script penned by Chris Morgan, who’s written all the films Lin’s directed in the series.

The studio have already announced that Fast and Furious 7 will be hitting the multiplex next summer, so be sure to stay through the credits!

Fast and Furious 6 is now playing in UK cinemas, and will be released in the US tomorrow, May 24th.
