Martin-Freeman-in-Fargo-sliceComing off the back of the critical acclaim that continues to circle their latest feature, Inside Llewyn Davis, the Coen brothers’ work makes its way onto the small screen this year with FX’s Fargo.

Loosely based on the brothers’ Oscar-winning cult classic, the series will run to ten episodes in length, and is set to be a limited series, with Joel and Ethan Coen on board as executive producers.

The film arrives on FX in the spring, and Yahoo TV has debuted the first images from the anticipated series, giving us a look at Martin Freeman and Allison Tolman.

Freeman’s character is loosely based on the role played by William H. Macy in the 1996 original, but will feature new characters and a new crime story.

Billy Bob Thornton stars opposite Freeman and Tolman, with the trio joined by Bob Odenkirk, Oliver Platt, Kate Walsh, and Glenn Howerton.

Freeman was last seen on the big screen in Peter Jackson’s second instalment in the trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, still showing in cinemas, and has of course also reprised his joint-leading role opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in the BBC’s Sherlock.

It’s not that often we get to see Freeman take on a role for the small screen like this, and with the Coen brothers on board as executive producers, it’s definitely one to look forward to.
