Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables is by far one of the most anticipated films of the year, with a fantastic cast led by Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Anne Hathaway.

One of the things most promising about it is that the music has been recorded live on the set, rather than in the studio, and now we’ve got a fantastic new behind-the-scenes extended featurette for the film focusing on that aspect.

“Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.”

Hathaway, Jackman, and Crowe are joined by an excellent cast, headed up by Amanda Seyfried, Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks, and Helena Bonham Carter.

Hooper’s follow-up to the Oscar winner The King’s Speech sees him directing from a script by William Nicholson (Gladiator, Shadowlands), who adapts the original classic novel of the same name by Victor Hugo and the world-famous stage musical.

Les Misérables is now set for release on Christmas Day in the US, and will be one of the first films released in the New Year here in the UK with an 11th January, 2013 release. It can’t come fast enough; I really can’t wait. Until then, here’s the wonderful new video to enjoy.
