Beorn - The Hobbit

One of the more intriguing additions to Peter Jackson’s rendering of Middle Earth is the character of Beorn, a nomadic skin-changer who hosts Gandalf, Bilbo and the party of dwarves halfway through the middle film in the trilogy.

The Desolation of Smaug may run a far more terrifying riot than the sometimes jaunty escapades of the first film in Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy but the introduction of Beorn is handled wonderfully well. From the initial trepidation to his shocking entrance the mystery of the character, essential to the tension of the scene, is conveyed with a very well chosen series of shots and edits.

When he arrives in front of the camera he looks just as he should – halfway between man and beast – and in this exclusive behind the scenes video we see how the make-up and hair was designed, as well as hearing from the man himself – Mikael Persbrandt.

Here’s the video, the DVD and Blu-ray is out on the 7th of April.
