Evil-Dead-PosterFede Alvarez’s upcoming Evil Dead remake has got a lot of positive buzz surrounding it. That’s not particularly common for a horror film, and especially a horror remake at that. So naturally, we’re looking forward to it.

Evil Dead launched a brilliant first red-band teaser trailer late last year, and we kicked off the New Year in style with a great new red-band trailer. With less than a month to go before it arrives in theatres, Sony have debuted the first TV spot, giving us another awesome look at the horrors we have in store for us.

“In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.”

Jane Levy takes the lead here, recasting the original male role played by Bruce Campbell for a female. And starring alongside her is Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci, and Elizabeth Blackmore, with Raimi and original lead Bruce Campbell both producing.

Alvarez makes his feature directorial debut, directing from a script he co-wrote with past collaborator Rodo Sayagues Mendez, with Diablo Cody hired for a revision last year.

There haven’t been too many must-see horror movies on my calendar for a while now, but I’m definitely looking forward to this one. It looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.

Evil Dead will be released in the US on 5th April, with its UK release date set a little later on 19th April. The film will be getting its world premiere at SXSW this Friday, and we can’t wait to see the early reactions.
