Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) is in talks to star in Disney’s musical Into the Woods, Variety has learned.
Blunt will appear opposite Johnny Depp (Alice in Wonderland), Meryl Streep (It’s Complicated), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Christine Baranski (How the Grinch Stole Christmas), James Cordon (The History Boys), and Jake Gyllenhaal (Jarhead) in the big screen version of the original Steven Sondheim musical.
Into the Woods centres on a witch who conspires to teach various characters of popular children’s stories – including Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel – an important lesson.
Rob Marshall (Chicago) is attached to direct from a screenplay by author James Lapine, who wrote the libretti for Sondheim’s musical.
Blunt will next be seen opposite Tom Cruise in All You Need is Kill.
