Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe just keeps looking better and better the more we hear from it.
Over the summer, we heard that Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) had wrapped a test reel for Marvel for his long-gestating Ant-Man film, and that brilliant news was soon followed by Marvel’s official announcement of their initial line-up for Phase Two, kicking off with Iron Man 3 in the spring.
One film left off the release date list was Wright’s Ant-Man, but it was given a logo, which was naturally very encouraging, and now Disney have officially announced that Ant-Man will follow The Avengers 2 with a release date now set for 6th November, 2015, with The Avengers 2 coming in May of that year.
The studio have also announced that both Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World, due out next year, will be released in 3D.
It’s not yet known if The Avengers 2 will close Phase Two like the first film closed Phase One, so we await to see if Ant-Man will be kicking off Phase Three with a new hero – either way, you’ll want to stick around following the credits of The Avengers, because we might just have a tiny hero coming our way.
To recap, here’s what the Marvel line-up looks like now:
Iron Man 3 will be released in 3D on 3rd May, 2013 in the US, and is set for a 26th April release in the UK.
Thor: The Dark World will be released in 3D on 8th November, 2013.
The Avengers 2 will be released on 1st May, 2015.
Ant-Man will be released on 6th November, 2015.
Wright is set to direct from a script he wrote with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block, The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn), and we can’t wait to hear who he and the studio are looking to cast in the lead.
Before all that, we’re expecting the first teaser trailer for Iron Man 3 to drop next Tuesday, 23rd October, so be sure to check back then. We’ll have it for you as soon as it hits. More as we get it, on all Marvel-related fronts.
