Following on from the first Super Bowl TV spot for Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, Summit are second to the post in launching their Big Game spot for Ivan Reitman’s upcoming sports drama, Draft Day.
Kevin Costner and Jennifer Garner lead a great cast, and given the nature of the film, launching a preview during one of the biggest sporting events of the year, and the biggest event in American football, is perfect timing.
On the day of the NFL Draft, general manager Sonny Weaver (Kevin Costner) has the opportunity to save football in Cleveland when he trades for the number one pick. He must quickly decide what he’s willing to sacrifice in pursuit of perfection as the lines between his personal and professional life become blurred on a life-changing day for a few hundred young men with dreams of playing in the NFL.
Costner and Garner are joined by Frank Langella, Terry Crews, Tom Welling, Joe Manganiello, Chadwick Boseman, Denis Leary, Rosanna Arquette, Ellen Burstyn, Sam Elliott, and Josh Pence.
Reitman (Ghostbusters, Twins) directs from a script co-written by Rajiv Joseph (Nurse Jackie) and Scott Rothman, both making their feature debuts here.
Draft Day will be released in the US on April 11th. No word yet on a UK release date, but given all the talent involved, I’m keeping my fingers crossed it will cross the Atlantic, quite possibly in a summer slot.
