Christian Bale

Following their collaboration on The Social Network, many believe that director David Fincher and writer Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs biopic is a guaranteed Oscar winner. An arguably fair assumption, especially now that it has been revealed that the filmmaker wants American Hustle and The Dark Knight Rises star Christian Bale to play the Apple founder.

According to The Wrap, Bale is Fincher’s top choice for the role, with insiders telling the site that when he recently met with Sony’s Amy Pascal to discuss the possibility of directing the film, Fincher told her no uncertain terms that he would only helm the project if it’s Bale who plays Steve Jobs.

That’s quite the ultimatum, but one that the critically acclaimed director behind the likes of Fight Club and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is well within his rights to make based on the hype surrounding this film. The physical resemblance between Bale and Jobs has often been noted in the past, and he certainly looks more suitable than Ashton Kutcher!

Bale has not been approached to play Jobs yet, and currently has nothing in the pipeline due to his decision to take a break to spend time with his family after wrapping up his time as Moses in Ridley Scott’s Exodus (another movie expected to generate award buzz around the actor who was most recently nominated for American Hustle).

If everything works out, it’s believed that the currently untitled Steve Jobs biopic will begin shooting early next year.
