Sinister Six

Drew Goddard has been attached to write Sony’s planned Sinister Six spin-off since late last year, but it has today been confirmed that The Cabin in the Woods director will also helm the movie which focuses on the team which is made up of some of Spidey’s greatest villains.

The option was always there for Goddard to direct, but the deal has only just now been closed. He’s also writing Daredevil for Marvel and Netflix, so whether his commitment to this project now means he will no longer be able to direct the first episode (which starts shooting in New York City this summer) remains to be seen.

As of right now, we don’t know an awful lot about the direction of The Sinister Six, other than it spins out of the events of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Fans have been speculating that the team could consist of Green Goblin, Electro, Rhino, Doctor Octopus, Vulture and The Lizard, but there’s been no official word in terms of the plot or tone of the spin-off as of yet.

However, with a director now named and press junkets for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 taking place over the next few weeks, more details will hopefully emerge soon. Alex Kurtzman is still attached to helm Sony’s other Spider-Man spin-off, Venom.

Are you looking forward to The Sinister Six?
