Sony struck family-friendly gold four years ago, and now they’re returning us to the animated world of Flint Lockwood and co. once more in a few months in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.
The original film launched the careers of co-directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who made their feature directorial debuts with the original, and have since gone on to helm 21 Jump Street and the upcoming The Lego Movie.
They’ve passed the baton to newcomers Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn, who look to have done a brilliant job for the franchise’s second instalment. And with less than three months before its Stateside release, Sony have launched another great new trailer.
When inventor Flint Lockwood discovers that his most infamous machine – the FLDSMDFR – is still operating and is now creating giant mutant food beasts that threaten to destroy civilization, he knows he’s the only one who can stop it. With the fate of humanity in his hands, Flint and his friends must embark on a dangerously delicious mission battling hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, apple pie-thons, double bacon cheespiders and other food creatures to save the world… again!
Anna Faris and Bill Hader are back for more in the sequel, lending their voices alongside Andy Samberg, James Caan, Neil Patrick Harris, Terry Crews, Kristen Schaal, Will Forte, and Benjamin Bratt.
And as if that wasn’t good enough, Cameron and Pearn co-wrote the script with the brilliant writing team of Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, whose credits include Horrible Bosses, by far one of my all-time favourite comedy movies.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 will be hitting the US on September 27th, almost a full month before its UK release date on 25th October. Here’s the new trailer to give you another great flavour of what’s to come. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
