Last year’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was a surprise hit fizzing with wit and invention and, like Coraline, were pleasant diversions from the animation juggernauts of Pixar and DreamWorks.

Co-writers and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are reported to be chatting with Disney with a view to taking on a project called Bob: The Musical. Pitched as the story of a man who hates musicals and, after a bang on the head, can hear ‘the music inside everyone’s hearts’. It’s been done on US TV before with Scrubs and ‘Once More With Feeling’, a season six episode of Buffy, in particular being a thing of beauty, proving that the idea can be done very well.

THR have the story which includes a list of talent previously involved and there’s a nice article written in 2006 by screenwriter John August about the project which goes some way to show how long this project has been on the cards. It sounds like a decent idea and if Lord and Miller do jump on board then I hope it gets the momentum it needs to waltz into production.
