With only a week until the release of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, a new poster has been released online, now emphasising the film’s two Oscar nominations for Best Film and Best Supporting Actor for Max von Sydow.

Adapted from Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel of the same name, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is an upcoming drama starring Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock as the parents of a ten-year-old amateur inventor.

Focusing on the young boy, Oskar (Thomas Horn), the film isn’t your every day family drama as it deals with the World Trade Center attack on September 11th 2001, after Oskar’s father (Hanks) is killed in the attack. Finding a key that belonged to him, Oskar becomes obsessed with figuring out what the key opens, as his search brings him into contact with others around the city, played by the likes of Max Von Sydow, Viola Davis and Jeffrey Wright.

The new poster shows a still from the film with Oskar happily sat with his parents before the tragedy, taglined: “This is not a story about September 11th, it’s a story about every day after.”

Directed by Stephen Daldry, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close looks like it’s going to be a great film, and is set to be released on 17th February.

Momentum Pictures have sent over the brand new UK poster for new movie, Act of Valour which is set for release in the UK 23rd March. If you missed the trailer for the movie, click here to have a watch. Act of Valour (or Act of Valor if you’re American) uses real-life US Navy Seals to make the movie as realistic as possible as well as using real mission reports to make the storyline as authentic as possible. It stars Roselyn Sanchez, Emilio Rivera, Nestor Serrano, Gonzalo Menendez, Ailsa Marshall, Jason Cottle and is directed by the Bandito Brothers.

We’ve seen it and really enjoyed it but keep your eyes peeled for Adam’s review when it goes live in the coming weeks.

Here’s a new image of Johnny Depp and co-star and former Bond Girl, Eva Green from their new movie Dark Shadows with Eva sporting a lovely blonde barnet. Dark Shadows is the latest from Tim Burton which probably goes without saying when you look at the styling of the image below and those we’ve seen so far from the movie. I’m about to wriote the rest of the cast down. Can you guess who it might be?! OK, let me put you out of your misery.

BAFTA have just released this rather nice photo of all the people who won an award at the 2012 BAFTA Film Awards which took place last night and it’s rather nice I have to say. The shot was taken on the stage after the event and includes among many, Adam Deacon who won the Orange Rising Star award, Octavia Spencer who won Best Supporting Actress for The Help, for Meryl Streep who won for The Iron Lady, John Hurt who took the award for Outstanding Contribution to British Cinema, Martin Scorsese who took the Fellowship Award, Asif Kapadia and his team behind the awesome movie, Senna. The big winners of the night were the team behind silent black and white movie, The Artist which came away with seven awards.

Lionsgate have just sent over the first UK poster and trailer for their new movie starring Mel Gibson with the title ‘How I Spent My Summer Vacation. he movie sees Mel Gibson in his first action movie for some years and I’m really hoping (like The Beaver) that he puts in an amazing performance. Could it be a new Lethal Weapon or has that time been and gone for Mel? I guess we’ll see.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation is directed by Adrian Grunberg and also stars Peter Stormare, Bob Gunton, Dean Norris, Scott Cohen, Patrick Bauchau. It’ll be with us May 11th.

It’s been a bad day for Driver (Gibson) and it’s not getting any better. He just made a big haul of millions that would give him a nice summer vacation on easy street.  A good idea that went south – literally.

During a high-speed car chase with the US Border Patrol, and a bleeding body in his back seat, Driver flips his car smashing through the border wall, tumbling violently, coming to a stop … in Mexico.  Apprehended by the Mexican authorities, he is sent to a hard-core prison where he enters the strange and dangerous world of “El Pueblito”, the worst prison in all of Mexico.  Not an easy place for an outsider such as Driver to survive, unless it’s with the help of someone who knows the ropes – a 10 year-old kid.

Directed by Adrian Grunberg, How I Spent My Summer Vacation, is produced by Mel Gibson, Bruce Davey and Stacy Perskie and stars Mel Gibson, Daniel Gimenez Cacho, Jesus Ochoa, Roberto Sosa, Dolores Heredia, Kevin Hernandez, Fernando Becerril, Mayra Serbullo, Mario Zaragoza, Gerardo Taracena, Tenoch Huerta and Peter Gerety.

Lionsgate have released the U.K. poster for Joss Whedon’s long-delayed horror-thriller The Cabin in the Woods.

Directed by Drew Goddard, The Cabin in the Woods stars Jodelle Ferland, Chris Hemsworth, Amy Acker, Jesse Williams, Fran Kranz, Kristen Connolly and Bradley Whitford.

Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Bad things happen.

After a worldwide premiered at the South by Southwest film festival, The Cabin in the Woods will open – as the poster clearly states – on Friday, April 13. It promises to be chock full of twists, turns and wicked treats.

Here’s a couple of brand new and exclusive images from Twentieth Century Fox’s new movie, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter which sounds like something we’ve made up but I assure you we haven’t! The film is directed by the man who brought us Wanted, Timur Bekmambetov and stars Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Benjamin Walker, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jimmi Simpson, Alan Tudyk, and Rufus Sewell. It’s produced by Tim Burton so that will also give you an idea of what you might be able to expect. The screenplay comes from Seth Grahame-Smith and the movie is based on his novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

We’ve been given these two new images from the movie which is set for release 3rd August just like the others that we’ve seen previously (see below), they really set the tone for the movie.

We’ve just been sent the first press release, poster and synopsis for Jonathan Sothcott’s new movie, The Mask of Red Death which is an adaption of the Edgar Allan Poe short story, The Masque of the Red Death published in 1842.

The movie adaption has been undertaken before with the most prominent version being the 1964 version but Roger Corman starring Vincent Price and Hazel Court. This new $1.5m version is due for release in 2013 with Sothcott (Elfie Hopkins, Strippers Vs Werewolves)  producing and British film maker Robert Pratten (Mindflesh, London Voodoo) helming the movie as Director. The press release informs us that the movie will be a a post-apocalyptic, steampunk-styled adaptation of the classic horror story.

The marketing for this is going to take a rather new form of ‘transmedia’ and will be be integrated with a new technology called Conducttr which allows audiences to take a participatory role in the storyworld.

“Although audiences can’t affect the outcome of the movie – it plays like any other – they will be incentivised  to collect items across the web and physical locations in order to have a heightened experience of the movie when it screens.”

Sounds fun!

No cast has been announced as yet but read on for the synopsis and click the poster to enlarge and we’ll update you with more information when we get it. Shooting is due to commence 1st June 2012 so stay tuned for more.

Sothcott and Pratten team for steampunk ‘Red Death’ adaptation

 London. As a producer I am constantly looking for new ways to tell stories and transmedia represents a very exciting opportunity. This version of Poe’s most famous story has everything the modern horror audience could want – its terrifying, sexy, action-packed and gory. As a film maker, Robert has a unique visual style that will make for an incredibly stylish film – this will be every bit as shocking as Mindflesh was and the post-apocalyptic setting allows us to give it a unique flavour – part steampunk, part cyber goth.”

Pratten commented“”When Jonathan mentioned the idea to me my mind first went to Tenpenny Tower in Fallout 3. It’s not quite like that at all but it does give you the idea of a rich dude trying to protect himself from the inevitability of death after an apocalypse.

This is a great opportunity to show how society might look after a reboot from a damaged hard drive: there’s a lot of what we recognize mashed up with medieval behavior we thought had been erased.In a world today in which many are predominantly hostile to spirituality, all they’ve done is replace faith in God with a faith in silicon chips and silicon breasts. In an post-apocalyptic Britain set in 2020, with life as we know irretrievably lost, new leaders will need to create myths in order to bring hope to the hopeless. And where there is no hope there’ll be violence, drugs, superstition and lust driven by the fear of facing our own mortality.”

The $1.5 million picture is scheduled to begin principal photography on June 1^st 2012. No casting has been announced as yet.

Edgar Allan Poe’s short story The Mask of the Red Death was first published in 1842 and has been filmed a number of times, most notably by Roger Corman in 1964 with a cast including Vincent Price and Hazel Court.

The official Snow White and the Huntsman Facebook page continues to update us with stonking new images from the new movie which is set for release 1st June and was filmed right here in the UK and Pinewood Studios and we’re very excited to see it.

I think this could well be my favourite image so far and it shows Kristen Stewart who plays Snow White squaring up to a strange huge monster. All that’s written on the site is ‘Friend or Foe’. I’m going to go with the half glass full option and say friend but what do you guys things? The ‘monster’ could be anything as we’ve no idea of the storyline for SWATH yet but time will tell! Though I am only at the beginning of my journey through Game of Thrones I have rarely seen a series make such an impression, and when the first season ended there were waves of disbelief which swept over Twitter, so clearly I have a lot to catch up on.

Bowing graciously to the legion of fans, who are baying like hungry tv-watching wolves in the downtime between seasons, HBO have put up seventeen new images of season two on their Facebook page and we’ve taken some of the best and placed them here.

Rising young actress Elizabeth Olsen, Sundance-favourite for her performance in Martha Marcy May Marlene, is already off to a great start with her career and has been keeping things diverse right from the start.

Martha Marcy May Marlene was a psychological thriller, she was in this year’s Sundance drama comedy Liberal Arts, and news surfaced today that she’ll be starring alongside Harry Potter’s Tom Felton (who plays Draco Malfoy) and Glenn Close in crime-thriller Therese Raquin.

To go with all of that, she’ll next be seen in Silent House, a horror film with a twist, in that it unfolds in real-time and feels like it’s all shot in one continuous take. We’ve now got some great new images and a new poster, courtesy of IMDb, that show off the darkness that we can expect from the film.

“SILENT HOUSE is a uniquely unsettling horror thriller starring Elizabeth Olsen as Sarah, a young woman who finds herself sealed inside her family’s secluded lake house. With no contact to the outside world, and no way out, panic turns to terror as events become increasingly ominous in and around the house. Directed by filmmaking duo Chris Kentis and Laura Lau, SILENT HOUSE uses meticulous camera choreography to take the audience on a tension-filled, real time journey, experienced in a single uninterrupted shot.”

The film is an adaptation of the original Uruguayan film, The Silent House, with Open Water collaborators Chris Kentis and Laura Lau co-directing from a script by Lau, who makes her directorial debut with this.

Olsen has been doing tremendously well for herself in the past year, having come almost completely out of nowhere last year at Sundance with Silent House and Martha Marcy May Marlene to become quite possibly the fastest rising star at the moment. Silent House was received well when it debuted at Sundance, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing it next month.

If you’re reading this in the US, you can look forward to seeing Olsen back on the big screen on 9^th March, and we here in the UK will be getting it a week later on 16^th March, having just been granted a 15-rating from the BBFC. Martin McDonagh made his feature debut back in 2008 with In Bruges, a film that earned him an Oscar nomination for his screenplay and a substantial cult following since its release. His follow-up this year with Seven Psychopaths has the making to be another big success for him, assembling a fantastic cast that includes Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson, and Christopher Walken in the leads.

We got the first images from the set at the end of last year, and we’ve now got the great first official images to share with you, courtesy of EW via Collider, in which we can see a few moments of serious tension between the above cast.

The film revolves around,

“a savage gangster (Woody Harrelson) goes on a rampage after his beloved shih tzu Bonny goes missing, snatched by an out-of-work actor (Sam Rockwell) who pays the bills by helping a professional dognapper (Christopher Walken) pick up pooches and return them for the reward money.

Farrell stars as a struggling screenwriter, working on a script titled Seven Psychopaths, who gets caught up in his pal Rockwell’s troubles… but also finds a lot of great material in the life-and-death conflict playing out over the kidnapped dog.”

EW visited the set of the film and talked to McDonagh, Farrell, and Rockwell (you can read their interviews here), and had a few more updates on the characters played by the rest of the cast:

“As for the rest of the cast, Precious star Gabourey Sidibe turns up as an unlucky dog-walker who faces Harrelson’s wrath, and Bond girl Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) turns up as the mobster’s girlfriend.

Abbie Cornish (Bright Star) co-stars as Kaya, the screenwriters patient and supportive girlfriend, nursing him through his writer’s block, and Tom Waits turns up as Zachariah, a rabbit-petting weirdo who offers up strange stories from his past for the Seven Psychopaths screenplay.”

Farrell is of course returning to work with McDonagh having led In Bruges alongside Brendan Gleeson, and Rockwell and Walken both worked with the writer-director on his Broadway play, A Behanding in Spokane, which saw Walken earn a Tony nomination for his performance.

No word yet on a release date, but Seven Psychopaths is expected to be released later on this year, so hopefully we’ll have a date set in stone before long. Sony Pictures Classics have released a colourful new poster for Damsels in Distress.

Written and directed by Whit Sillman (The Last Days of Disco), Damsels in Distress stars Greta Gerwig (Greenberg), Adam Brody (Scream 4), Analeigh Tipton (Crazy Stupid Love), Megalyn Echikunwoke (The 4400), Hugh Becker (The Assault) and Carrie MacLemore (Gossip Girl).

Three beautiful girls—Violet Wister (Gerwig), Rose (Echikunwoke) and Heather (MacLemore)—set out to revolutionise life at a grungy American university by forming a group which strives to help depressed students by advising them about good hygiene and teaching them musical dance numbers. After welcoming new student Lily (Tipton) into their group, the girls become romantically involved with a series of men who threaten the girls’ friendship and sanity.

Damsels in Distress premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival late last year to wide acclaim. It’s scheduled to hit U.K. cinemas on April 20.

This is the latest milestone on the odd journey of Machete, with the first artwork to the sequel (of the two planned further films) to the ridiculously over the top 2010 Grindhousesque revenge thriller.

While the first film showed that the first film made for a great trailer it’s a little surprising that Robert Rodriguez has two more films in the series in his future, not least the final installment which, while not greenlit as of yet, will exist in trailer form with this new film and is called Machete Kills Again…In Space! Of course he does, but the plot synopsis for this film involves a weapon being launched into space so there’s an obvious way in there.

Machete Kills will be filming in the Spring and no doubt will include the same bevy of odd cameos and bloodsplatter.

Best known in the West for his superb performance in Ang Lee’s Oscar-winning film, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Chow Yun-fat has since gone on to star in a number of both American and Asian films, including Curse of the Golden Flower, Bulletproof Monk, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

One of his most recent films, Let the Bullets Fly, was released in China back in December 2010, and took 730m. yuan ($111m.) at the Chinese box office, becoming the highest-grossing domestic film in China. It’s now getting a limited release out in the States, and we’ve got the first US trailer and poster to share with you, courtesy of Apple.

“In this pitch-black action-comedy, the legendary bandit “Pocky” Zhang violently crosses paths with the con man Tang, who desperately offers up an intriguing proposition: Zhang will become the governor of Goose Town, where he can make more money in a month than he would in a year of train robberies. But neither realizes that Goose Town is already under the iron rule of Master Huang (Hong Kong action legend Chow Yun-Fat), a ruthless and wealthy crime lord. Zhang and Huang begin a hyper-violent and hilarious series of escalating mind games in this witty, masterfully vicious film, China’s highest-grossing of all time.”

The film is directed by Jiang Wen, who also stars alongside Yun-fat, along with Ge You, Carina Lau, and Feng Xiaogang.

Let the Bullets Fly will be hitting US theatres in just a few weeks’ time on 2^nd March, and though unfortunately we probably won’t be getting a theatrical release here in the UK, hopefully we can look forward to getting it on DVD/Blu-Ray soon, most likely through Cine Asia. (On a slightly different note, Cine Asia will be re-releasing Jackie Chan’s classic Wheels on Meals on DVD on 19^th March, and you can pre-order it for only £4.99 via the usual places.)

It seems that Raul’s success as an international businessman means the ranch’s troubles are over, but when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul’s business dealings turn out to be less than legit, the Alvarez family finds themselves in a full-out war with Mexico’s most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal).

I think this trailer has been released in a US cut before but I think the poster is brand new and asked the question, ‘Who is Armando Alvarez?’

Previously titled One Thousand A.E., the return from renowned director M. Night Shyamalan behind the camera on After Earth has a lot of potential going for it. Real-life father and son Will Smith and Jaden Smith will star as father and son in the film, with a script coming from Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli), with a rewrite done by Shyamalan, and a final polish by the Academy Award-winning Stephen Gaghan (Traffic).

We’ve now got the first few great photos from the set to share with you, courtesy of Will Smith’s Facebook and Shyamalan’s WhoSay, via Collider. And though they don’t show filming itself, we get to see some of the locations over in Costa Rica, as well as a great shot of Will on the first day of filming this week.

“A father and son crash land on Earth, one thousand years after it has been abandoned by mankind. The father is injured in the crash, and it is up to his son to find aid.”

And for anyone interested, the director had this to say with the latest of his images, dated 6th February:

“Day 1. Two firsts. This is the first time I am shooting on a digital camera. The camera I am using is a Sony F65, and I am the first filmmaker to use it.”

Having got his career off to a fantastic start, rising to fame with The Sixth Sense and Signs, the director’s last few films haven’t been quite so well received critically. But nonetheless, they’ve always done well at the box office, with his last film, his adaptation of Avatar (the animated series) with The Last Airbender in 2010, taking $320m. from a $150m. budget.

I think a lot of people are expecting this to be a return to better critical reception with Will Smith on board as one of the leads, and it’s great to see that production’s now kicked off. Along with the two Smiths, After Earth will also star Zoe Kravitz, Sophie Okonedo, and Isabelle Fuhrman, and is currently set for a 7th June, 2013 release, perfectly primed to set the summer box office alight next year. With one of the longest film titles that I can remember in recent years, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World looks more than a little promising. With a cast led by Steve Carell and Keira Knightley, the film marks the directorial debut of Lorene Scafaria, writer of Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.

Yahoo Movies have the first poster for the film to share with us, and it really is rather beautiful.

“Set in a too-near future, a man searches for a meaningful connection as humanity’s last days are at hand. Can he find his greatest love at the worst possible time? As the respective journeys of Dodge and Penny converge, the two spark to each other and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten.”

Looking at Carell in his sweater and hoodie really reminds me of his brilliant performance in Crazy, Stupid, Love. last year, a film that clearly showed that Carell can pull off the drama and romance every bit as well as he can the comedy.

Scafaria is directing from her own script, and has assembled a great cast that also includes Adam Brody (The O.C.), Melanie Lynskey (Two and a Half Men), Patton Oswalt (Young Adult), William Peterson (CSI), and Gillian Jacobs (Community).

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is set to be released in the States on 22^nd June, and with a bit of luck we can look forward to seeing it here in the UK this summer too. As usual with this lovely first poster, you can click to enlarge.

I’m looking forward to John Carter more and more with every passing day. After getting a brilliant new TV spot for the film during the Super Bowl at the weekend, followed by a great set of new images yesterday, we’ve now got another epic new TV spot to share with you, along with a new international poster.

This new minute-long TV spot, courtesy of ComingSoon.net, adds to all of the awesome things we’ve seen from Disney’s upcoming blockbuster already, showing a terrific array of special effects, with all kinds of great alien creatures, explosions, and more.

“Synopsis: From Academy Award(R)-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes “John Carter”–a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs , whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). Led by Taylor Kitsch in the titular lead role, the film also stars Lynn Collins as the warrior Princess lead female, Mark Strong, Bryan Cranston, Dominic West, Samantha Morton, Willem Dafoe, Ciarán Hinds, and James Purefoy. Andrew Stanton, best known for his Oscar-winning direction of Finding Nemo and WALL-E, will be making his debut with live-action, and it looks like an immense debut at that.

John Carter will be with us in 3D on 9^th March, so literally just over one month before we get to see this epic film unfold before us on the big screen. I can’t wait. Until then, here’s the brand new TV spot and Israeli poster, via IMP Awards, to feast your eyes on. And the music in the new spot is suitably more than a little bit epic, so plenty for your ears to enjoy too.
