Beautiful-Creatures-PosterBeautiful Creatures is the first blockbuster out of the gate this year contending for the market left open by the end of The Twilight Saga last year. The film has definite franchise potential for Warner Bros., and it’s going to be interesting to see the box office numbers at the end of this weekend.

With a perfectly-timed Valentine’s Day release date, the film is arriving in theatres this Thursday. And with just two more days to wait, the studio have released a new Beautiful Creatures featurette, focusing on the darker elements of romance we can expect.

“A supernatural love story set in the South, “Beautiful Creatures” tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers: Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich), a young man longing to escape his small town, and Lena (Alice Englert), a mysterious new girl. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town.”

Rising young stars Alice Englert (Ginger & Rosa) and Alden Ehrenreich (Stoker) take the leads here, with fine support coming from Emmy Rossum (The Phantom of the Opera), Emma Thompson (Love Actually), Jeremy Irons (Margin Call), Thomas Mann (Project X), and Viola Davis (The Help).

Richard LaGravenese (Water for Elephants) is behind the camera here, directing from his own script, having adapted the original best-selling novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.

The original novel is the first in a four-part series, known as the Caster Chronicles. So if this first film does well, we could well be looking at a good few more years in the world of Beautiful Creatures. Especially if the studio goes down the route of a two-part finale.

Beautiful Creatures will be released in theatres this Thursday, 14th February in the US. And to sweeten the deal, its UK release date is set a day earlier, hitting tomorrow on Wednesday, 13th February, letting us take advantage of the 2-for-1 cinema deals that the midweek brings on our shores. Here’s the latest featurette to get the anticipation rising.
