With its April release date on the horizon, the first trailer has been released over at Yahoo Movies, giving us a great first look at the film.
“In the competitive world of modern agriculture, ambitious Henry Whipple wants his rebellious son Dean to help expand his family’s farming empire. However, Dean has his sights set on becoming a professional race car driver. When a high-stakes investigation into their business is exposed, father and son are pushed into an unexpected crisis that threatens the family’s entire livelihood.”
Efron stars alongside an excellent cast, with Dennis Quaid giving a fine performance as the young Efron’s father, and support coming from Maika Monroe, Kim Dickens, Heather Graham, Chelcie Ross, and Clancy Brown.
Ramin Bahrani (Goodbye Solo, Chop Shop) is directing from a script he co-wrote with Hallie Elizabeth Newton, making her screenwriting debut.
Efron really has been stepping his game up recently, breaking out of his typecast High School Musical role in a great way, and I think At Any Price is going to go a long way to show audiences that he’s got a lot to give. Shia LaBeouf has been doing the same thing recently, and it’s great to see both Efron and LaBeouf succeeding beyond the roles they could have otherwise settled into quite comfortably.
Relative newcomer Maika Monroe is especially excellent here as well as Efron’s on-screen girlfriend, and I’m hoping that we’ll be seeing much more of her in the years to come, too.
At Any Price will be opening on 26th April, with Sony Classics set to give it a limited release at first, before opening wider across the US in successive weeks. No word yet on a UK release date, but we’ve often seen SPC’s releases come across the Atlantic a few months later, and hopefully that will be the case here. For now, the first trailer for At Any Price. Enjoy.
