Afternoon-Delight-PosterDebuting at Sundance this year to excellent early reviews, Afternoon Delight marks the feature debut of Jill Soloway, whose work on the small screen includes Six Feet Under, United States of Tara, and How to Make It in America.

Boasting a terrific cast, led by Kathryn Hahn and Juno Temple, the film will be heading into select US cinemas at the end of next month, and now the first trailer has been released over on Apple, alongside a new poster.

AFTERNOON DELIGHT is the story of Rachel, a stay-at-home mom who becomes obsessed with saving a stripper named McKenna. Rachel is a quick-witted and lovable, yet tightly coiled, thirty-something steeped in the creative class of Los Angeles’s bohemian, affluent Silver Lake neighborhood. Everything looks just right—chic modernist home, successful husband, adorable child, hipster wardrobe. But when she visits a strip club to spice up her marriage and gets a private dance from McKenna, something cracks open. Rachel returns to the scene of the dance to get to know McKenna, and soon after, adopt her as a live-in nanny. This bold move unleashes unimagined and colorful waves of change into Rachel’s life, marriage and community.

Hahn and Temple are joined by a great ensemble, headed up by Josh Radnor, Jane Lynch, Jessica St. Clair, Michaela Watkins, and Josh Stamberg.

Soloway is directing from her own script, making her feature debut as both a writer and director with the film. It won her the Directing Award in the Dramatic category at Sundance, which really speaks for itself.

Afternoon Delight will be released in the US on August 30th. No word on a UK release date, but here’s to hoping it will be crossing the Atlantic sometime later this year, because it looks excellent.
