After-Earth-Poster-InternationalM. Night Shyamalan returns to the helm to bring us one of the biggest blockbusters of the year: After Earth.

Real-life father-and-son team Will Smith and Jaden Smith star as on-screen father and son, and we’re looking forward to seeing how this one unfolds for Shyamalan and Sony.

The first trailer dropped late last year, giving us an intriguing first look at the world in which After Earth will be set. And with the new trailer set to arrive later today, Sony have released a new poster, with the Smiths taking centre stage.

“After Earth is set 1000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.”

Sony have been working to develop a multi-platform universe ahead of the blockbuster’s release this summer, with plenty of material available already to get you hooked.

Will Smith and son Jaden Smith are expected to be front and centre pretty much throughout, with Isabelle Fuhrman, Zoë Kravitz, and Sophie Okonedo thought to be starring alongside them.

Shyamalan is directing from a script he co-wrote with Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli), with Stephen Gaghan (Traffic) hired to polish the script.

After Earth is due to be released on 7th June in the UK and US, and all signs point to it being a huge success at the box office. For now, here’s the new poster. And be sure to check back later for when the new trailer lands.

[UPDATE: We’ve been asked to remove the new poster, as it appears it hadn’t been approved for release. So we’ve instead replaced it with the international poster that’s since surfaced. Be sure to head over here to watch the latest trailer instead, featuring all the action you’d expect from a Shyamalan / Smith sci-fi blockbuster.]
