If you enjoyed Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 take on Robert A. Heinlein’s Starship Troopers then you may be interested to know that Vulture is reporting that a remake is in the works.

Sony have apparently thrown this paticular bone to Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, who moved from writing for TV with Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Fringe to the heady and superheroic heights of Thor as well as doing some work on X-Men: First Class. The pair have recently scripted The Fall Guy for Martin Campbell, have a deal for their first novel about a fourteen year old boy with Asperger’s syndrome named Colin Fischer, and were recently linked with a Top Gun sequel as well as the next X-Men film so quite when they’ll get around to tearing into Heinlein is anyone’s guess.

Verhoeven’s ’97 fim still holds up despite the undertow of two, thankfully little-seen sequels, and has a ton of quotable lines as well as Nazi Neil Patrick Harris which usaully improves any film tenfold. What effect the global turmoil of the last fourteen years will have on the film is uncertain, but you can guarantee 3D will rear its head. All I can say to Sony is – CAST MICHAEL IRONSIDE.

Whatever happens with this remake it’s Verhoeven-a-go-go in the Remake world with Colin Farrell in a new Total Recall movie and the long gestating Robocop rebake on the way.
