First Pic from Rourke and Fox’s Passion Play
February 9, 2010 · Comments
The first image to emerge from the Mickey Rourke/Megan Fox film Passion Play is here, and it looks as if the two are dancing on the set of The Wizard of Oz in this one. Megan Fox is a angel, trapped in a carnival sideshow while Rourke is a down and out trumpet player who saves Fox’s character from the oppressive hand of Happy Shannon, not the head clown in the circus, but a vicious gangster played by Bill Murray. Well, I was sold on Bill Murray but this looks to be a nicely low key tale of redemption and salvation (with Bill Murray). This is Mitch Glazer’s first film behind the camera... [Read the full story]

Review: Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
February 8, 2010 · Comments
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a series of five books written by Rick Riordan. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is the first of the book and sets the scene for both us, the audience and for Percy himself. After the Harry Potter series, kids seem to be in need of another fix of something mysterious and wonderful and it seems that Percy Jackson is where it’s at. It’s not so big in the UK yet but after the release of the new movie with a mix of all star cast and semi-newcomers, will the films start a wave of Percy Jackson here in the UK? Hopefully my review of the film might help... [Read the full story]

New Trailer for Neil Jordan’s Ondine
February 7, 2010 · Comments
Neil Jordan’s filmography is full of powerful, fantastical tales with Mona Lisa and The Crying Game two iconic early works. His 2009 film, Ondine, was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival last year is due out sometime this year and there’s a nice new trailer out today. Telling the story of an Irish fisherman, played by Colin Farrell who catches a mermaid in his net, this would appear to play nicely alongside Jordan other supernatural films such as The Company of Wolves and In Dreams. What is certain from the trailer, cinematographer Christopher Doyle has made the most of... [Read the full story]

What made Doug Liman’s married hitman couple action comedy work was the chemistry of its stars (and the faint waft of scandal behind the scenes played its part too), the pyrotechnics of the gunplay combined nicely with the peppy dialogue and though there’s not much once the surface is scratched it was a...

Tom Ford’s feature debut is a triumph of style and substance, of ecstatic emotions and deadening grief which among its merits is the chance it gives for its lead, Colin Firth, to realise his potential as an actor with a performance worthy of the awards nominations it is receiving.
