Gangster-Squad-Character-Banner-Emma-StoneGangster Squad will see director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) making his first foray outside of the comedy genre, and we can’t wait to see how it unfolds.

Led by Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, and Sean Penn, there’s less than a month to go before it hits the big screen, and the anticipation is very much running on high for this one. We saw a great new featurette for the film last week, and now Warner Bros. have release a sixty-second TV spot to help make the wait that little bit easier.

“Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and—if he has his way—every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart.”

Gosling, Stone, Brolin, and Penn are joined by an immaculate cast, headed up by Nick Nolte, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Peña, and Robert Patrick.

Fleischer is directing from a script by Will Beall (Castle, the upcoming Justice League movie), based on Paul Lieberman’s original seven-part article in the LA Times.

Gangster Squad will be released in the UK and US on 11th January, 2013, and that is a date that can’t come fast enough. Commit it to memory, because this should be one of the best films of next year.
