3-Days-to-Kill-Poster-sliceReturning behind the camera for his follow-up to 2012’s This Means War, McG shifts gears a little in returning to straight action-thriller territory for the upcoming 3 Days to Kill.

The first trailer and poster launched just before Christmas, and now a new international trailer has landed online, teasing some more from the upcoming actioner.

In this distinctive action-thriller, Kevin Costner plays an elite government hit man who after receiving news that he has a terminal disease, decides to give up his high stakes life to finally build a relationship with his estranged wife and daughter, whom he’s previously kept at arm’s length to keep out of danger. But when his agency offers him an experimental, potentially life-saving drug in exchange for one last mission, it’s an offer he can’t refuse – even if it means juggling his two toughest assignments yet: going after the world’s most ruthless terrorist and caring for his daughter for the first time in ten years while his wife is out of town.

Kevin Costner is front and centre on this one, and Amber Heard naturally looks the part as a kind of femme fatale, with Hailee Steinfeld and Connie Nielsen completing the cast nicely.

McG (Terminator Salvation, We Are Marshall) directs from a script co-written by Luc Besson and Adi Hasak (From Paris With Love), with the former producing through his Eurocorp banner.

Though it lasts but a moment, the shot of Costner stepping out from the door in the trailer below at the 47-second mark really reminds me of Besson’s Leon, and that’s more than enough to give me hope that this will be more than your average action-thriller.

3 Days to Kill will be hitting US cinemas on February 21st, with its UK release still to be confirmed.
