Casting Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum opposite each other for an action-comedy sounds both unexpected and genius, and all that we’ve seen from the upcoming 21 Jump Street remake looks like the casting choice will pay off.

Co-directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller make their live-action feature debut with this, having made a name for themselves bringing us Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and Jonah Hill has already said that a 21 Jump Street sequel is in the works.

With its release just a week and a half away, we’ve got a great new red-band TV spot to share, in which Ice Cube explains the rules of their assignment, and it looks like Hill and Tatum will be breaking pretty much every single one of them.

“In the action-comedy 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.”

Along with Tatum and the Oscar-nominated Hill in the leads, the film also stars Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Dave Franco, Ellie Kemper, Rob Riggle, and a cameo from Mr. Johnny Depp himself, star of the original 1980s TV series.

And since the script comes from Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) with Hill also taking a story credit, I think we can be pretty comfortable in the knowledge that this should be plenty of fun.

21 Jump Street will be out in the UK and the US next Friday, on 16th March, so make sure you make a mental note to catch it whilst it’s out in the cinemas. It should be great, and here’s the new TV spot to prove it. (And again, it’s red-band, so not suitable for work if you’re currently reading this at your desk.)
