Continuing to cast every student in Professor Xavier’s (James McAvoy) school, news (from Deadline) reaches us of another actor joining Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class. Edi Gathegi, who was last seen as the dreadlocked Laurent in Twilight, is set to play Darwin, a mutant who gains the power of “reactive evolution”. In the comics Darwin, the first bi-racial character of the series, is able to adapt to his surroundings, growing gills if submerged in water.
Garthegi, who also appeared in Gone Baby Gone and has a recurring credit on TV’s House, has just finished production on Paul Johansson’s Atlas Shrugged, an adaptation of Ayn Rand’s novel of the same name.

X-Men: First Class is currently being redrafted by frequent Vaughn collaborator Jane Goldman. Already enrolled in the class of X:Men 2011 are Magneto (Michale Fassbender), Emma Frost (Alice Eve), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Havoc (Lucas Till), Banshee (Caleb Landry Jones) and an undisclosed villain (Kevin Bacon).
