Well, it’s that time of year again. The trailer are starting to emerge for some the end of year releases, so we are getting glimpses of the movies that will vie for Oscars at the Dolby Theatre next year.

From period dramas to blockbusters, short films, and animation, the following are ten films that could potentially do well.

1. August: Osage County

Without doubt the early favourite is this period drama oozing Oscar credentials. The cast includes Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Abigail Breslin, Juliette Lewis, and Chris Cooper plus rising star Benedict Cumberbatch, who is working his way up the Hollywood ranks.

Director John Wells has little experience in this field, but with Oscar winning Producers George Clooney, Grant Heslov, and Harvey Weinstein behind him, and a rather excellent looking trailer, August: Osage County looks set to make a big impression. However, its recent shift in release date questions how confident The Weinstein Company is in this film, as its previous time of November 8th has, in recent years, proven itself as the prime release period for Best Picture winners.
